At the moment, i'm going through "Doolittle" and
"Bossanova" and there really is something special about this
band. Quality songs! Some guy said they were a sonic youth
ripoff but i don't know any of youth's music so i can't
really say much, what do you think?

Anymore recommendations of these guys are welcome.

It's actually "Pixies", no "The" there, actually,...
actually.

Hey (Pixies joke), get "Complete B-Sides"

several of them are pleasantly plump.

sonic youth ripoff! not even close.

if you like one album, you'll probably like them all. i
used to love 'em back in the eighties when i went to
college.

i know Sonic Youth a lot more than Pixies (whose only record
i have is Surfer Rosa), but i can tell Surfer Rosa is
nothing like Sonic Youth.

got Surfer Rosa some months ago (maybe a bit over a year,
i'm not sure), at the beginning i was listening to it all
the time... now it's been a while since i haven't, but i
think it's a great record anyway.

that was a reply to recycle

i'll probably be buying more pixies - the current ones are
overheating. the thing is, i'm really hungry for good rock
music at the moment.

whether one likes pixies or not is irrelevant to whether
they should listen to cocteau twins

pixies are the best.

one of my favouritest bands.

"surfer rosa" is one of the most perfect albums I have ever
heard.

recycle: no thanks i've heard it, it's okay

thatne: i've been meaning to get my hands on some cocteau
twins, but they're not really twins, two guys and a girl,
cocteau triplets?

"surfer rosa" it is. uzim has it, qrter recommends it. it
must be good.

dog belch, i think i'll dig into the b-sides when im a big
time fan wanting everything they ever made.

get the release of "surfer rosa" that includes their debut,
the EP "come on pilgrim".

it's an excellent package.

pixies are great. i saw em play a couple months ago and it
was tons of fun. that music truly is meant to be heard live,
theres just so much energy flowing through the whole crowd,
which consists of people ranging from 40-something office
workers wearing a polo shirt as a dress-down to 15 year old
middle school girls smoking pot.

well.. it's not as black and white as that, but it also
holds quite a lot of truth.

"bossanova" sounds like an 80s pop album with a production
that verges on the over-production - very few good songs and
a lot of filler.

"tromple le monde" sounds like a band on its last legs - a
few good songs, but a lot of uninspired lesser material.

oh go away - bossanova and tromp are two of their best, if i
were to pick an album were i think they kind of dropped the
ball, that would be doolittle.

Actually that b-sides collection is one of their finer
releases, i really recommend it! check out songs such as
river euphrates, manta ray, winterlong, into the white,
dancing the manta ray.

Those are great. In fact, check out any song that has Kim
singing.

To dumb ears it might be a Sonic Youth rip off...

come on pilgrim
tromp le monde
doolittle

As Nelton says, the b-sides compilation does house some of
THE DEFINING Pixies songs, such as River Euphrates, In
Heaven, live fave "Into the White", Vamos (live), Manta Ray
PLUS some of my faves, Dave Lovering's paean to Debbie
Gibson "Make Believe", "Bailey's Walk" and Theme from Narc.

Though qrter is right, Surfer Rosa+Come on Pilgrim =
Unbeatable value.

Fun fact: My fave Pixies song is No. 13 Baby.

whatever you do NEVER buy and/or read John Mendellsohns book
about the Pixies called "Gigantic" - came out this year.

I did both and it is one of the worst musical biographies I
have ever read.
