do you like them? i like some. john callaghans 'comfortble inside my mind' is indeed a very cool "vocal-track".

ok i'm back. steedie is outsider art, i'd say. otherwise, vocals are sometimes ok and sometimes not so ok. generally prefer the instrumentals, though.

vocals are great!
lyrics make lots of songs that really are incredibly repetitive worth a listen and in some cases it's mostly about the lyrics when I listen to stuff (hip-hop)

that's very difficult to say. i would say that 99.8 percent of people would find it very bad. however, if you enjoy very bad music, you might enjoy it.

most of the time, i'm not interested in the lyrics at all, and often if i am, i subsequently find out that i had the lyrics wrong anyway. i don't like 99.8 percent of hip hop, unless you take out the vocals, but then what's the point?

this "99.8 percent" seems very convenient...
i never used to like hiphop, untill i actually (actively) listened to some good hiphop.

that's the story with most people and most genres. for some reason people always assume that other genres of music are shit, but it just means they haven't listened to it... in that way, I should probably listen to more rock and stuff, but I'm still finding so much good hip-hop, electronic and jazz music that I just don't have the time...

with most electronic stuff, no (dmx crew, random japanese female vocals, bjork, etc.)
i've found the books to have nice vocals, albeit sparse.
as far as indie/rock stuff most of it i find crappy. vocal lines are very boring. some folk stuff appeals to me though.
metal can have it's good and it's bad. dimitri's vocals on dillinger escape plan's calculating infinity were perfect for me. but then there's too cromagnon sounding stuff that seems silly to me.
hip hop i find to be quite boring all together

Hey, let's take this question seriously becuae it really has been astonishingly well formed with convincing arguments for and against.... vocals.

My music listening can be broken down into roughly 50% music with vocals, 50% music without vocals. I like them, but only when they sound good (ie, the singer has a good voice) and when the lyrics aren't stupid/trite/uninspired.
I can't stand idiots who hear an instrumental and utter "WHERE ARE THE VOCALS" like it isn't music unless someone is singing.

i find i can get tired of most vocals, but then i just stop listening to that band for a while and come back fresh.
jeff mangum's vocals for neutral milk hotel never get old to me, however.
