a few days ago i played through yoshi's island. now i did
download the rom for "super mario world", but i die every 20
seconds, and you can only save every 3 or 4 levels. i cant
imagine what type of motherfucking super-nerd skills you
need to get through this game. it's too motherfucking HARD.

but i enjoyed yoshi's island and i have lots of spare-time
at the moment. i never played SNES as a child, so what
should i dl, i want silly jump'n'run stuff. any tips?

eh.. if you find super mario world hard, remember that most
emulators has a save state thingie.. it lets you save
wherever you are.. it's kind of cheating, but if you can't
make it at all, try it.

download zelda: a link to the past

you probably want the donkey kong country series. I can
probably beat super mario world in 1 life.

"out of this world" is run and jump minus the silly. But
it's very original an neat... although once I got mid-game
it started getting irritating figuring out what to do and I
guit.

No offense, but Super Mario World is like the most
excessively EASY platformer ever, haha. They practically
shower you with 1-ups and powerup stashes, it's insane.
Other than that, it's a Mazdapiece.

Donkey Kong Country is a great pure platformer, very easy to
pick up and play and a good difficulty arc to it... easy at
first and a tricky bastard near the end. Get DKC. Get Contra
3- The Alien Wars, everybody that's ever played that game
loves it. You might want to use the built in Game Genie
features on whatever emulator you're using if you're having
trouble. And you WILL have trouble.

My favorite platformer on the SNES and of all-time is Super
Castlevania IV. But if you think Mario World is hard, then
I dunno if you'd want to touch this...

yup, look for a "freeze/defrost" function ^^
best cheat ever.

and get Donkey Kong Country.

i've also started Super Mario World again... this game is
great, never seems to get old : ) and all those secret
levels to unlock...
i didn't find it hard though, except for the final fight
against Bowser and the "Soda Lake" level. oh and i remember
"Outrageous" in the secret zone was kinda hard too but i
beat it. now it was years ago...
maybe you're not used to playing with a keyboard, it can
require some adaptation time. (personally it annoys me when
i have to use L and R buttons since my keyboard config
doesn't work well with them)

i find Donkey Kong Country easier than Super Mario World...
even though both are easy, a few levels in Super Mario World
can be annoying. even the "Platform Perils" level in DKC is
easy once you've got the hang of it.

Donkey Kong Country was the first game i beat by the way!

Super easy game but there's definitely some tricky parts if
you're trying to get *96 status. There's a part, I think the
end of Cheese Bridge, where you have to use your cape to fly
under the goal to get to a secret goal. Very easy to fall
off the screen to your death or to hit the first goal by
accident. That pissed me right the fuck off.

yes ^^

well now that i remember, there are some very well-hidden
bonus rooms in DKC as well if you want to get 101*... in
"Orang-Utan Gang" especially.

Oh man, I forgot that people use keyboards for these things.
I suppose Mario World would be tricky in that case. Bogus. I
picked up two cheap Microsoft Sidewinders, basically the
same thing as an SNES controller. They were only like 10
bucks each or something.

I actually don't know if I've ever played yoshi's island. I
did play one yoshi game that was sickenly intended with kids
as a target audience. I think it was n64 and probably
yoshi's story. I think megaman x is another snes game that
was good, I forget how good it was.. but the playstation
megaman 8 was about as gay as yoshi's story. Another gay
game is "spin jam" for playstation. All these rainbow colors
and happy songs and shit.

Yeah Yoshi's Story was gay and sucked. Yoshi's Island,
however, was a platforming juggernaut. And some of Koji
Kondo's neatest music. You should probably play it or
something.

Ophecks > that sure would be handy. i have a real SNES too
but the controller is dirty and not very responsive and all
(i should try to open it and clean it from the inside), and
i barely have 2-3 games on it... tried buying some new
controllers for cheap (€2 each) but the controller pad is
really crap.

w M w > Yoshi's Story, yes. but Nintendo thought it well: it
is for very young kids, but it can have a bit of
challenge if you're trying to get the 30 melons in every
stage...

i've reached 90 at this game : i can't find the special way
in cheese bridge, but Ophecks told how to achieve it ; i
finished DKC1,2,3 at 101,102,103 and my favourite is the 2nd
one !

offline Combo from Sex on 2005-07-16 06:08 [#01664992]

btw.. yoshi's island finished with 6 stars héhé ! but the
special level with all the monkeys was tricky, as well as
the last with the boss where you must keep your 30 stars to
achieve 100% !!

i don't remember how much i did... as i said i'm starting it
again, i'm far from finished yet - still at castle and
fortress #5 (in the forest of illusion).

haven't tried DKC 3, but DKC 2 didn't catch me as much as
the first one... i haven't even finished it. : |

no, they're unofficial ones... i couldn't find official ones
: |

and the d-pad doesn't work well, you have to hold the right
button a bit up-right otherwise it doesn't work. yuck.

DKC 2 is better than the first imo... level design, fun,
music, atmosphere, bonus challenge, evertything is better !
as much as mario world 2 (yoshi's island) is better than the
first

nevertheless i can understand it if you played DKC first,
becuz i played DKC2 first

i can only say that in french :

It must suck not having ebay very convenient if living
outside the US or canada. Ebay is awesome as far as getting
used CHEAP videogames. You might be better off getting an
entire uses usa version SNES with usa version games,
assuming they're compatible on the televisions or whatever
in your area. Shipping would be more than the games probably
but still cheap. I really need to learn how to program my
own games.

ophexorz- have you ever considered programming your own
games (since you are so into them) or tried learning a
computer language like c++?

okay, i'll try super mario world again with the
freeze-function. maybe i'll develop the required skills
while playing, too. hmm ...

and i'll look for that donkey kong stuff, too. thx!

I played the donkey kong country series recently and hardly
was interested. I hate collecting things. Any game where you
have to collect/find things usually turns me off somewhat
now. I've done too much of it. I think the capper was banjo
kazooie... jesus crap-ist... music notes... jimblies or
whatever those colored small creatures are... I forget but
like 5 other categories of crap to collect also. Maybe I'm
confusing that game with donkey kong 64 which I mostly hated
(only because it was too clone-ish of previous games).

sticks. getting all used and weary and uncomfortable so
soon.

damn you, N64 controller sticks.

When zelda came out everyone at nintendorks.com called that
white gewish stuff that forms at the base of the analogue
stick "fairy gew", in honor of zelda fairies. It happens on
playstation also.. probably solidified sweat. Even though
the setup of using the z button and the top right shoulder
button was very unsymmetrical it worked very well in my mind
as left and right respectively in some games (like
fzero/starfox etc where you lean left or right or
something).

Shit, by the way starfox was very awesome and needs a proper
sequal. If I remember the one on gamecube sucked if there
even was one.
