Ok, so you're hungry and decide to make yourself a sandwich... let's call the top-most slice in the loaf (the one closest to the twistie tie or other fastener) "1" and each next lower slice "2", "3", "4" etc, all the way to the bottom slice.
So, say you take out slices 5 and 6 together and place them on your plate, still in their natural order with 5 on top of 6 which is, in turn, on top of the plate.
From this point, one way to proceed making the sandwich, the ethical way would be to flip 5 over, place the sandwich ingredients on 6, then flip 5 back on top, thus keeping both slices in their destined loaf order.
BUT... one might soon discover that it's easier to simply put the ingredients on top of number 5, then take 6 out from underneath and place it on top, thus ultimately eating the sandwich with both bread slices in an order other than was intended by the loaf?
Do you disrupt the natural bread slice order in the mere name of convenience? Personally... I don't know about you... but it's much, much more important for me to do it the former way and not go to hell when I die for doing something so disrespectful, especially given that god is manifested as a giant loaf of Weber's Bread.

i like toasts though.
and by the way i don't understand the saying "the best invention since sliced bread"... sliced bread wasn't really such a good invention, was it? if you slice it yourself you can decide whether you want a thin slice, a medium slice or a thick slice. sure you have to have and use a bread knife. but if you have one, really what's the point? you can't be so lazy you don't want to cut a slice of bread?

are you a vegetamable-itarian? That saying doesn't use 'best' to refer to "best of ALL inventions" It refers to a competition to find the invention that is just a hair better than sliced bread, similar to the game where you roll a quarter near a wall and try to get closest but not touch the wall. The goodness of the sliced bread invention is calculated at 2.67543. People are constantly breaking the record of the next best invention. So far the record is socks at 2.67630.

I still think it would be cool to order a pepperoni pizza, only open the box to see the pepperonis are severed male human nipples upon closer inspection. I could direct a whole movie about this; probably a whole trilogy.

it's ok... i'd never eat meat, but now i've loosened the line a bit; i eat seefood sometimes. i'm vegetarian mostly because meat disgusts me as a substance now, morally i got used to it, people are eating it all the time, animals are eating other animals too etc... i still find the way animals are treated in big industrial farms is scandalous/horrible though.
