He insists this sounds exactly like ae, even after my
numerous statements as to why not.
GIve it a listen and tell him why it doesn't.

he says its autechre and that any fool can make it, he has
never use fruity loops or made music before, and he has
spent about 10 minutes with ae before discarding it as
rubbish

I'm not one to get involved in the drama between others, but
no one can make Autechre. It took Mr. Booth and Brown nearly
15 years to make Ae, and that process is still in effect.

The bit playing throughout in the background sounds like Jet
Set Willy walking on the Spectrum. I would say that the
track was incredible, but I would be lying.

well, indeed it doesn't sound like it. it sounds kind of
goofy (which Autechre never does), and the beats are not
Autechre-like (complex in their own style).

now i have this other track called "Aer (valid)" by Arovane
& Phonem, which sounds a lot more than Autechre (and
really i could confuse it with real Autechre easily).

How many times should one listen to confield before judging
it fairly?

Should one get a "buzz" for it immediately like i did or
grow into it with many listens?

i had to grow into certain autechre albums, they took a few
listens but it depends.

That's probably the most accurate description I've heard
yet. That audio clip is so bad that it's not worth making a
thread about.

> well, there is no "should" for this kind of things, i
think... just do how you feel. i personally never trust
first listens personally, but apart from that, it's just
about how i feel about it... depends on the music, depends
on my mood, depends on the artist, depends on the patience
and motivation i have, on how much other stuff i have to
listen to, etc.

as i said, i never trust first listens; but listening to
something 20 times before judging it just sounds excessive.
(your perception and your tastes will change all the time
throughout your life anyway... and you can probably get
bored of any music about time, even if it might be a very
very long time.)

maybe around five listens could be a good average, for all
kinds of music in general... although it depends on the
person.

Well, it's OK, but very far from what we normally recognize
as Autechre, not to say people should sound like them.
