yeah, I don't listen much to radio because there's so much
crap in-between the good songs. I wouldn't really expect any
radio show to have 100% good songs for me (and if so, other
people would surely be annoyed by some of the songs), so I
just mostly stay clear.

I have, however, at times downloaded pommes show from his
page.

But read those original replies to Heliosphan, it's exactly
the same pattern that's found in other forms of art. It's
typical of the ADD mentality, where everything harder to
reach is dismissed (because they are cool when doing so? Or
perhaps it doesn't demand much intellect?)

Music here is dismissed for reasons that have absolutely
*no* relation to the sound itself. They base themselves on
obvious patterns of knowledge which are related to a bad
understanding of musical history.

"It sounds dated"
"I could do it myself better"
"Its too easy"

It's just typical fucking subjective stupidities. Like
people dismissing music because it's old. I know one of my
friend, he's so dumb when he starts talking about movies and
music. For him, just because the "production" is of higher
values than before, it makes it obligatory superior. That's
stupid stupid stupid stupid. The guy will never appreciate
music as an art form. Never.

i agree with you, nevertheless sometimes you can't
appreciate something if you don't know the context

for instance if you read a book of jokes in chinese without
knowing this language you'll hardly laugh... and if you
don't know how life was a few years ago, maybe you won't
understand the lyrics of some songs
well that could apply to instrumental music

everything harder to reach is dismissed

did you consider the possibility that they just didn't like
it?

"It sounds dated"

completely good reply. Tolst didn't say when the song was
from, and these people had no way of knowing. If I had to
research the musical history of every song I heard I
wouldn't have time to listen to music.

"I could do it myself better"
"Its too easy"

I agree; these two are based on stupidity, but they aren't
comparable to the first.

For him, just because the "production" is of higher
values than before, it makes it obligatory superior.

yeah, I knew a guy like that.. I haven't talked to him for a
long time now.. it's the guy who listened to music with pro
logic on a system where the rear-speakers were disconnected
if you've read the "pushing boundaries" thread by tolst...

I don't see how language-barriers are comparable to music
appreciation.
