de la soul

any de la soul fans here?

I can't get enough of their stuff, their awesome fusions of
all kinds of styles and their generally positive ryhmes,
they may be a little dated but I really dig there style,
(not to mention that their instrumental albums are awesome
as well, the music can really stand on it's own I reckon)

they're the only ones I can get into as well, I think the
later ones are the better instrumental albums though..

I want to hear bionix with vocals particularly,

Hey yo kid!
whatsup?
Remember when I used to be dope?
yeah.
I owned a pocket full of fame,
but look what your doin' now.
I know, well I know..
I lost touch with reality now my personality is an unwanted
comodity.

I hate it when a bad mc ruins an otherwise awesome act.

I like their work with Gorillaz on the latter's new track.
Damn good, shows they've still got it.

Ah, but that image is reversed. The label would have been
printed backwards.

maybe it was a blank label and a de la soul record was
sitting on top of it, and the ink pressed off onto the blank
afx record label.

well that's all I can think of without getting TECHNICAL!

maybe they're trying to send a subtle hint that they want a
collaboration to take place, or maybe it's a PREMONITION!

I think that one is bionix, which is the one I have the
instrumental form, but not the proper album

I like "held down" off tha album in it's instrumental form

what is their live stuff like?

is it all real drums/bass/instruments etc.. or is it just
straight decks and mc's?

cheers mate, sounds like it kicked a lot of arse, IU had no
idea they were still active to be honest, I might see if
they're coming to oz sometime...

so, what was there setup up like then?

I actually can't remember their setup exactly, which is why
I tried avoiding the question with that link. there were
decks, but I have a feeling there was a drummer too... it
could've just been a drum-set that was on-stage, but I think
there was a guy drumming.

I'm pretty sure there was no large ensemble at least...

the first albums have some spontaneous feel to them, not
like that "oooo ooo ooo oooo" pop shit later on.

seems like they were more relaxed in the beginning. "better
instrumental" - i've never paid much attention to their
sound...

well, i haven't heard the latest albums so i can't really
say

peace

it's worth noting that some selected public enemy tracks
sound very "de la soul"ish (mostly I mean musically, not
vocally)
