There's aids, there's sars, there are natural disasters
that cause a lot of people to die. Looking at the world
getting more and more crowded.
I'm thinking that in the long run, these events prevent
overpopulation.

I know a lot people die of these things, and this thread is
not meant as a joke.

It's just, the world seems to be going mad in an exponential
manner.

Thats very true. Considering the amount of people that have
these diseases plus all the other things. I wonder if there
is a graph somewhere that compairs the number of people that
are/have been dying as opposed to our world population

our only saviour would be a comet bigger than earth crashing
into us.

i know that sounds very negative but it's most likely true.

something that big tends to have a stronger gravitational
pull, so it would be us hitting that rather than that
hitting us.

...i think.

overpopulation is a good thing for capitalism, so unless
capitalism gets taken out I don't think that the government
will tkae active steps towards populaiton control, (I think
there's countries out there that have a one child limit for
pop. control purposes or something, china or japan I assume)

doesn't china also have a problem generally controlling
hteir population? like, they've got a problem with the
streets being littered by homeless and presumably
unregistered citizens or soemthing too,

and they have a "rich north, poor south" thing as well
don't they?

hopefully not in my lifetime or my kids, or my kids kids

For that you wouldn't even need a comet 1/16th the size of
the earth. Though there's no comet that big.

ah right yeah i sort of knew it didnt have to be that big.
but it would be fun to see it coming if it was.

lets just hope earth gets sucked into a black hole then. if
that's possible.

Save us from what? are we really in that much trouble? It
might seem so, but taking into account that human beings
have always felt guilty for their actions, my vote is no.

People in third world countries tend to have a lot of
children because they want security when they are older.
Many children die and so they have lots to ensure that there
is someone there to look after them when they grow old. If
the number of people that suffer from these diseases was
reduced then people would gradually start having less
children and so the population would be decreased anyway,
without as much pain. Also, if we could educate people that
condoms aren't evil and do prevent disease then there would
be less pregnancy as well.

Overpopulation is cancelled out by lack of food for the
enitre population. This is what keeps animal populations
stable. If a breeding pair have too many offspring then then
it is harder to feed them, resulting in less offspring
reaching maturity.

The same should theoretically apply to humans who have more
offspring than they can support, the major difference
between animals and humans is welfare, meaning a human
mother can have more offspring than could be supported
without the handouts.

Also, advances in science are causing an overpopulated
planet, since medicines keep people alive for longer.

been reading a cool book about genetics, it explains a few
simple steps that mankind could take to give a longer life
expectancy, etc. It is logical, but to put it into practice
would be a horrendous task.
