it's commercial pop-punk that is somehow even gayer than pop-punk.

you're confusing fugazi with embrace, the pioneers of this shit music, who totally and utterly sucked.
"emotional hardcore" is a meaningless term. emo is not any more emotional than any other form of music. it is, however, 100% more awful than any other kind of music. if you believe otherwise, you are either fourteen or an idiot. probably both, since i knew better than to listen to such garbage when i was fourteen. it isn't emotional - it simply has an incredibly strong melody and whiny tone and all the songs are about how you hate your girlfriend. please never, ever, call emo "hardcore" again because it has zero to do with actual hardcore music and everything to do with commercial pop radio.

dude all im saying is the stuff i used to listen to and called emo is nothing like what people call emo today. i agree the stuff people call emo is whiney wank with a pop melody crying over some bird who thinks hes a fat speccy cunt. however when i was listening to bands like braid and pavement, cap n jazz, etc they were considered emo even though they ahve none of the whiney mediocre - ness of the now labeled emo shite!
alot of stuff was called emotional hardcore because it did stem form bands like minor threat and fugazi and so on but what im talking about isnt what is reffered to as emo these days!
:P

braid and pavement are from the days of indie rock or college rock. there plenty of cute terms - whatever you want to call it. to say that minor threat and fugazi are even similar to braid or pavement is like saying elvis is similar to bjork. yes, they are both music. yes, ian mackaye was in both of those bands. minor threat and fugazi aren't even slightly similar to each other, much less "emo". that term wasn't even invented until about seven years ago when mainstream wanted a new "alternative".

llisen to some of pavements leads (especially live) they have a deffinate fugazi sound to them, yes they are different. im not saying they are the same genre as fugazi but they are deffinatly a follow on/influence. the early braid tunes are very minor threat in a hardcore sense with hectic guitar and screams. i know mackaye was in both bands and both bands have been extremely influential to alot of bands that are still aound today, fuck im heavily influenced by fugazi in alot of my band stuff.

that's great, but listen to embrace and you'll soon realize there are much closer influences that make more sense (and i don't recommend listening to them - i'm just making a point). there are tons of bands that are/were minor threat and fugazi influenced and maybe some of these emo bands LOVE them with all of their hearts. that doesn't change anything - emo still sucks. it doesn't matter how unknown or "underground" a band is - if they sound like commercial shit, they are shit.

it's the exact same shit. none of it has anything to do with punk music or hardcore music. it takes all of one second to hear how they are totally opposite forms of music.
