ok not that early but name some early artists you like for
any type of electronic music

mine include acen, krome and time, lfo, prodigy (especially
the remix of everybody say love), liquid, sl2, guy called
gerald and 808 state, aphex, actually there are too many to
carry on naming them but what about you?

sorry i also mean that they are the reason you started
listening to electronic music not that you just enjoy
listening to them now. i am sure there are some that we may
have missed and it would be good to hunt them out.

autechre (incunabula and amber era)

well you just have i only clarified a point i missed from my
first post. please, if you aren't going to be constructive
just give posting in a topic a miss. it seems every topic
has trying to be 'witty' negative posts in them and it just
gets predictable and boring.

points don't concern me, i am just trying to understand the
reasons behind people make willfully pointless posts which
ruin topics. i thought this would be a good topic to discuss
the origins of peoples interest in electronic music.
obviously not.

I also think Jean Michel Jarre should be included in the
list. Possibly even Tangerine Dream.

Tuxedomoon, my favorite electronic music of the 80s. Again,
not really entirely electronic, often used saxophones and
strings and pianos and stuff. But all the really neat stuff
they did wouldn't have been possible without electronics.
And Edgard Varese if you want to get really old and archaic.

Sorry for making a joke mister.

If you really want to know;
Jeff Wayne (War of the Worlds), Jean Michel jarre, Vangelis,
Kraftwerk, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Eboman, Reload,
Orbital, Aphex Twin, Autechre, The Orb, LFO, Speedy J,
Beaumont Hannant, The Future Sound of London etc.

ooh, and for the record:
outpt = ±5.6 posts a day (already)
Aesthetics = ±4.2 posts a day

I wouldn't consider that ruining. Its still a messageboard,
and those that hate on the topic do as much to propell it,
if not more, than those who agree. Generally, that is where
people will try to make points (not rating points, but idea
points), and the actuall discussion occurs.

i knew he didn't hate electronic music though. and those who
hate on a topic change the topics meaning into one driven by
trying to prove themselves right rather than having a
discussion.

nocturn I really like some of orbitals work. also i don't
think anyone has mentioned the KLF yet either.

and i'm glad you mentioned Liquid! do you have any idea what
happened to that guy?
i would also add Tangerine dream, Orbital, Spooky , Shamen ,
Banco de gaia .

possible translations of this topic title :

"my first experience with electronic music"

"first electronic acts you like"

"kraftwerk and....who else ?"

you're being too serious....what ? you're offline ! baaah !!

i never listened to any music before 1998 so i never heard
these 'early' artists when they first came out...and
whenever i go and listen to them now, they sound so dated i
cant enjoy them because im so used to more 'advanced' recent
music.

Earliest I can Remember:Eurythmics, Erasure, PetShop Boys,
New Order, Depeche Mode

During The 90's:Utah Saints,The Prodigy,Leftfield,Moby,808
state, Altern8,Acen,SL2,Zero B, Jeff Mills

I was really into my rave/techno music, but got fed up with
it, now i prefer more meaningfull stuff with lyrics,
acoustic instruments and ting...but still with a twist of
experimental electronics

my way:
boney m. -> italo disco -> elvis -> beatles ->
poprock era -> metal era -> grindcore era -> ministry, nin,
front242, skinny puppy -> underworld, orbital, fsol -> brian
eno -> aphex -> goa -> aphex -> boc -> jazz -> classical ->
all shit around -> my girlfriends, my chief :-)

but aphex is still in blood

well the first prodigy release was What Evil Lurks in 1990
which predates alot of the artists mentioned. plus I think
I made it quite clear in the first two posts just what I
meant without the need for your 'translations'.

I misunderstood the post... my intro and initiation was the
Aphecks Twin, Windowlicker, via Napster. I listened to New
Order and Kraftwerk and Eno and stuff before him, those guys
weren't hard to get a hold of... but Winderlicker was
mysterious and cool to me, and the combination of fresh new
artist and the boom of the p2p era really made me an
electronicist.

I just bought ATMOSPHERIC SYNTHESIZER SPECTACULAR Vol. 1 for
two quid. It's all Oldfield and Faltermeyer and Eno and
Vangelis. Mostly quite shit. Has anyone else heard the track
Infinity by Walden? It's super duper.

i was in the u.s.a. and not in a hip place so i learnt about
electronic music as a genre in the wave of like '96 or so,
when fatboy slim and the chemical brothers and so forth were
on mtv.

right around the same time i'd bought richard d. james
album, orbus terrarum, in sides, and a few others that i
misremember just now... i grew out of the less-various
stuff pretty quickly, that is, i preferred the leftfield
stuff to the mainstream stuff. i have never really gotten
over my extreme fascination with jungle, that probably began
with the prodigy's breakbeat stuff from experience and then
was cemented with roni size/reprazent's new forms.
