Everything. You might as well just drink yourself to the
end. For what?

We try and find a meaning in everything, but in reality
there is nothing.

Just go now.

You are wrong. Chocolate is not crap. And neither is going
for a piss after you've been desperately holding it in for a
couple of hours.

I experienced that today...It was great.

I got home and I hadn't pissed for hours. The experience of
release was better then anything else I have ever
experienced.

i have accidentally read in a medical book for parents
several years ago:
if your child seems not to visit the toilet for a long
time, you have to remind. cause the feeling of release after
a long hold of piss is a little similar to orgasm and can
cause something...

some soviet book, maybe. i don't remember it well.

I dont understand depressed people

There are 400,000 billion other animals and insects
completely aware of death and dont care about it why can't
you

I admit I get depressed too but its just boredom

you sound well informed.

as if all depressed people are afraid of death and that's
why they are depressed.

Well I don't get it either. Objectively speaking, life is
pretty good from my angle.

Unfortunately, us humans have annoyingly complex and
seemingly out-of-control emmotions. They don't obey us, or
external circumstances.

Drink doesn't help either.

I dunno I think all depression stems from the fear of loss,
and the ultimate loss being death... etc. I kinda draw the
conclusion that way.

it's a lot more complex than that, with the brain and
chemicals and all that crap and people having different
social backgrounds, upbringings and experiences in life.

Depression is just lacking the will to go on really in my
view. I have done lots of social work and thats really the
conclusion I drew so many times. Family related, etc, things
just pile on mentally. Just nothing new you know...

offline cygnus from nowhere and everyplace on 2005-07-02 18:22 [#01651044]

So that stems from death. You have the fear. You can factor
in all the weight into the fear that brings death closer and
that is what handicaps. Do you see what I mean

No, it doesn't have to be that.

You could be the richest, safest, most socially-fulfilled
person ever and still get hit by awful depression. The
entire reason why it's annoying and confusing is because
there is often no reason for it. It's just a state of mind
that can imprison people, regardless of what happens on the
outside.

At least, that's how I've understood it from talking to
people.

depression comes and goes.isnt it usuly like that when you
have finally solved a problem a new problem shows up

This is why Bolivian coulture is so courageous... they don't
fear death and will revolt readily against army soldiers ...
they are not depressed and destroy themselves like many
other cultures they know what the problem is

sounds to me like you're just trying to simplify something
complex to make it easier to digest for yourself - draw
conclusions, make a workeable, overseeable system, file it
away.

I think it's a trap people fall into all too much.

do you know why i quit doing social work?

i saw through the psychology, right through it

the people who wanted to get better, got better. the ones
who didn't, didn't.

that's easy man. it's simple. it's not complex at all i dont
think. you can factor in chemical imbalances and stuff too
-- for the most part it's just someone addicted to feeling
bad. but, whatever it is, its just, do you want to live? or
don't you? do you want to be happy?

side-note: everything doesn't necessarily have to be
complex.

I don't think depression has anything to do with death. its
the other way around dude. Depression can lead to
complacency, and unwillingness to live meaningfully, and so
on, but so can happiness. Depression is different. At the
point I am at now, depression seems to be much more
synthetic an emotion. Like it was invented as a popular
scapegoat.

As far as I am concerned, depression stems more from boredom
or having too many choices at hand.
