have you ever tried goattracker? it's a tracker for making
"real" chiptunes... you only have three channels of
polyphony as the original chip had, and you also only have
the basic waveform thingies... I've made a few tunes with
it, but have nothing online right now... however, I
did make a dub-ish chiptune earlier today.. it's
spammed down the page...

i got it working fine except really bad sound issues, which
to me, the sound is half the experience. i think it runs ok
with dosbox, can't remember, have not used it in a while.
ccs64 was a shit hot emulator though

remember to read the FAQ for goattracker.. it took me
forever to figure out why I couldn't export my songs... had
to "close" the waveforms or whatever...

c64 as in commodore 64? I don't remember what the music on
those sounded like, but I am in love with this thread
already.... please someone post some music they've made with
this.

I can't post any music I've made with goattracker, as it was
all deleted when I formatted my computer, but those links I
posted higher up on the page (sidfind and sidplay) should be
helpful.

the elektron synth is a beaut, shame they're so limited, i
would have loved to have owned one. it would have been a
trip to nostalgia on par with actually becoming a
transformer.

the sidstation seems capable of producing some pretty cool
tones, but for the money I think I could get something with
sounds as good as that, and a better interface.

I always wondered how people do those arpeggio-stabs.. I
tried creating something in goattracker, but it always comes
out wrong...

no attack, no sustain, no release.

that doesn't make an arpeggio.. that just makes a solid
tone...

really fast arpeggios. every chip tracker on atari has
arpeggios like those. you just have to edit your sound and
choose what semitones spread you want.

the only way you can play chords + melody + bass + drums on
a 3 track sequencer.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2005-07-13 13:13 [#01661659]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to Drunken Mastah: #01661088

No it doesn't. A solid tone would be no attack, full
sustain, no release.

You should set your decay to be very short as well.

Although I don't know goatracker, so I could be very wrong.

no attack, no decay, full sustain, no release?

I'm talking more about.. the sound... I know all that
decay-stuff.. what about the wavetable?

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2005-07-13 13:53 [#01661714]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to yann_g: #01661685

decay doesn't matter when you are talking about keeping your
sustain at the highest point. Because the sustain is the
point in the slope where it stops decaying and just stays
the same untill the note is released.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2005-07-13 13:55 [#01661723]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to Drunken Mastah: #01661688

Well, like I said, I don't know goatracker, so I am not sure
about what kind of wavtables they give you, but to get good
arp sounds, normally, you would want to use sawtooth or
square/rectangle waves. Sine sounds are too soft, so they
generally make weak sounding arps.

i know but i'm cray enough to set very precisely me decay
setting no matter how full is my sustain (seriously i always
set it to 0 when i set max sustain, i feel safer this way,
help me)

i have no idea what it is anyway, i use genuine chip
emulators for my sid music (if only i could have a free
hardware atari st).
