i remember seeing that documentary "Jazz". at one part they
showed bands playing songs that were jazz on the one hand
but had sung blues parts, too (?). i guess duke ellington
was involved (?). i dont know. it seemed to be a trend for a
few years.
you dont hear much of that style nowadays though, but i
wanna download some traxx of this fashion. just to know what
they sounded like, i dont even think i'll like them. you
dont know some?

well .. they only showed rather short excerpts. it was
popular jazz .. big-band and swing stuff. melodic. and after
those jazz-parts some negro started to sing some blues
verses and then they went back to jazz.

sometimes the line between jazz and blues is kind of
thin...

anyway, these short excerpts, were they of a show with a
male presenter who used to dance off stage when he'd
introduced the acts?

sure, jazz and blues OVERLAP, but it was labelled as some
kind of blues-jazz Fusion. and it seemed to be popular then.
hmmm ....

dancing male presenter? no .. i dont think so.

i remember men in suites. one drumming wildly, others
playing brass. and then a man stepped on stage and shouted
his blues lines into the mic.

just a gigolo from louis armstrong is close to what i meant.
the stuff i heard had a much greater contrast between the
jazzy instrumental and the sung "blues" parts, but that was
probably just the example track and not something that
distinguished a style.

look for tracks that are collaborations between armstrong &
ellington, I've got a cd here:
"Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington - The Great Summit: the
master takes"
