[analord 03] Klop Job

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2005-06-30 00:54 [#01648552]

Does anybody else feel that this song is probly closer in
the analord series to the earlier melodies that made aphex
so great? I love it...

Most of the rest of analord can go. This song is it.

I stopped listening to any of them after about 2 tracks. I
guess I didn't expect much since drukqs also sucked which is
perplexing because windowlicker, come to daddy and the RDJ
album are inhumanly good.

you... you'll wake up in the middle of the night some time
in the future, screaming 'OH MY GOD I WAS WRONG!!!' and on
that day i'll be at home, awake, thinking 'heh heh heh'

No... Thats about it... drukqs sucked. 3 good songs. One bad
album.

klop Job is good, and so is drukqs!
Do some of you feel this way about drukqs because it was
totally straying from rdjs original sound?
I always listen to an album for what it is, rather than
expectations from the artist. Alright I lied, I do expect
allot from an artist I've grown to love for each new
release. But after time I'll open up to an album as is,
stand alone. In short, drukqs fucking owns.

Naw... I thought it was boring. If it hadn't been Aphex, I
wouldn't have given it as many chances as I have, let alone
a full listen.

heh, true story, this was the first aphex twin album I ever
bought. From there I backtracked all the way to the classics
era. So I guess my judgement for this album cannot be taken
seriously as nostalgia fogs it :)

drukqs rules, EFF the haters. Its just boring because you
aren't listening hard enough. The sheer complexity and
henious amount of details and variation applied each sound
alone should be enough to keep you interested. Even
bbydyhonchord has no 2 measures alike.

I don't understand how anyone can find drukqs boring, I can
deal with the fact that some people don't like it, but how
can it be boring when it's got the most complex percussion
and crescendos RDJ has ever done?

drukqs is a technical achievment to me more than anything.
It has a sound like it took lots of work. Like an Eddie Van
Halen guitar solo. May have been really easy. Who knows.

How did I find drukqs boring? For the same reason that I
find most venetian snares boring, and all squarepusher
boring... its just really fast percussion. For beats to be
interesting for me it has to have rhythm. Richard devine
does insaine percussion, but there is always a distinct
rhythm and funk. As well, it doesn't seem to have as much
soul as windowlicker, or come to daddy. Don't bring up the
piano tracks... I want beats with rhythms with soul...

Yeah man I was saying on a slsk channel not long ago... that
when I played ZIGGOMATIC V7 slowed down to 33rpm, it was a
wicked Analord-type tune that goes on for like 12 minutes.
It's truly incredible, that long buildup on the normal speed
where he showcases his work, it's as good.

(just slow down winamp 27% slower using a software like
"pacemaker")

breaking news, drukqs' beats have no rythm and no funk!
fact!
at first i found it boring, i thought it lacked soul...
but c'mon, no funk? :(

I'm saying:

Richard devine is a brilliant sound designer and programmer.
I never feel rushes of adrenaline in any other music other
than richard devines.

Richard d James is clever, but by no means technically
brilliant.

Squarepusher is a musical genius, but I don't feel any of
his work (so the problem is on my end not his).

dog_dad: This is my first redundant thread in years. Sorry.
Since your such a long term lurker, who manages to actually
catch most of the trends in here without actually
participating, maybe you might have noticed that... or not.
I don't stand out that much here. Thanks for contributing to
one of my threads though. I haven't noticed enough comments
like that since all the sarcastic mods got banned. Just be
thankfull I don't need to talk about Rubber Johnny, glade,
or different ways to fix xltronic.

um. well your problem is that you think the beat tracks on
druqks are about beats. no, they're not, there are thousands
of elements on each track that blend into each other
creating beautiful stuff.

also, the beats are fucking great. they sound like they took
a lot of work. (I also recommend listening to them slowed
down, not because i like the slowed down tracks but because
you can hear them like if you had an ear microscope or
something)

also, listen to ziggomatic, it's not like the beats stand
out i.e. :doesn't feel like it's about fast beats.

also, the piano tracks are great, especially petiatil and
nannou2.

and on a side note, i don't like venetian snares.

I don't care if they are "super fucking complex and out of
this world" or whatever... they don't have soul, they don't
have rhythm. Do you really thinks it takes genius to write
complex music? There is a reason why I put thomas brinkmanns
concept 1 96 vr in at least my top twendy, and drukqs
doesn't even meet the top 100. Concept 1 96 vr is filled
with great mood. It has great rhythm. Its simple as hell,
and its made with a two armed turntable and an effects box.
Maybe if you lack better music to listen to or drukqs is the
first thing you heard by aphex or anything, then you can be
like "OH MY FUCKING GOOD" but I aint feeling any of the shit
on drukqs. I used to try to listen to it, getting bored out
of my skull by the time the second disc was meant to be
thrown on. Not like I am not looking for complexity or
anything, usually that doesn't scare me away from music...
but it just bored the hell out of me. Why he didn't just
release a couple albums close to eachother, or just make two
ep's of the good songs, I don't know. Maybe he was trying to
loose fans.

Anyways. I didn't say it wasn't technically good or
anything. I thought it was boring.

Well, thats why aphex was my favorite artist for about 5
years. After his long break, I found people that interested
me more, and then drukqs couldn't get it back.

He has soul, I just don't think he put any of it into most
of drukqs. There are a couple songs...

exactamundo.

drukqs is fabulously unique and effortlessly timeless.

i also like how afx shakes of would-be fan boys by releasing
stuff as challenging as drukqs and the staggered analord
seeries.

Ummmmm. Notice how I wasn't insulting anybody. I was like "I
thought drukqs was shit." and then people were like "but its
soo good" so its that back and forth over and over again.

Wrong and wrong on the second part. You can say that after
listening to arch carrier????

i was being a bit of a nob to be honest. but yes i can say
that after listening to arch carrier, although it would have
been tougher for me to say that if you had named corc
instead.

for me ae's most emotionally potent track is krib, yet it
doesnt emote me on the same scale as say, fingerbib.
