just decided off the cuff to get hold of this again, i
hadn't heard it for years. and... it sounds great! i used to
loath it, at the time a firend of mine was so disgusted with
it he took it back to the shop and swapped it for something
else.

they really changed their style so abruptly it really put me
off. and yes more recently they have done it again with the
isness, and another aa album is to follow, and i didnt like
that either! (i'll listen to it again in 2010)

maybe it takes me 10 years to get into anything new :)
perhaps i might start to like incanabula this year who
knows. but don't hold your breath!

funny how youre taste in music changes without you even
noticing :)

Didn't the vinyl of this come originally in a rubber sleeve?
I remember it, maybe, in Sister Ray, or it could be another
IDM dream.

I've never heard it, though I have a lot of their records.

Was it? My mind, it has gone. I was sure ISDN came in
something, oh I don't know. Originally it was limited, that
much I am sure of. Ribbed. Was it UFOrb? I really must,...
well I just must.

i bought the black cover vinyl version in HMV on the day it
came out. It wasn't a rubber sleeve but, it was gatefold and
had velcro parts to keep it shut.

yeah i like it. not my favourite fsol, but then again i'm
not sure what is, cos its all really good in my book.

fsol dont get as much press round here as they deserve. just
look how few people have shown interest in the thread.

I used to love F.S.O.L. but whatever you do steer clear of
the last Amorphous Androgenous album, I'm a big prog fan but
this just encapsulated everything that gives the genre a bad
name and ended up giving me mental images of dodgy post Gong
hippy casulties, I think it was the vocals that did this
more than anything.

b.t.w there is one F.S.O.L track that samples pretty much
the whole of a Robert Leiner track with very little else
added, the cheeky monkeys.

I have the ISDN black version cd. Comes in a fold out
papersleeve with velcro, really beautiful (front cover is
black instead of the regular white)
Don't know nothing about a rubber sleeve, i think that
doesnt exist.
For hardcore FSOl fans (like me) also check the classic
Earthbeat compilation cd (Jumpin Pumpin 1992) It's a
compilation of their oldest alteregos like Mental Cube, Semi
real, Humanoid, Candese, Indo tribe etc etc. Not very
difficult to get your hands on. (ebay..)

I've got that too, in fact ISDN was meant to be a limited
pressing and was originally deleted on the day of release.

i quite liked the aa album, actually. isdn is good, too;

they did a great little ep with Liz Fraiser from Cocteau
Twins.
'Paths' i think it's called. It's basically a bunch of
'Lifeforms remixes'

offline magnetisch from Netherlands, The on 2005-06-30 15:32 [#01649183]

yes, the single you are talking about called Lifeforms EP,
same name as the full length. Some different versions (so
called paths)of the track Lifeforms (from the full length
Lifeforms).
I can recommend you the Cascade ep (1993). In my opinion
their best ep release. Check also the Accelerator (1992)
album for more dance based tracks, its very good.
The my Kingdom ep (96) is also excellent.
Their first Amorphous Androgynous album Tales from the
Ephidrina (1993), is also good, but the most dated in sound.
Some true gems on that album are Liquid insects and Mountain
Goat

I've got that one as well, and loved FSOL, but since the
isness I think I will sell it on ebay.

cascade is my favourite release theyve done. apart from the
humanoid stuff, obviously. i like the idea of the eps they
did, taking a theme and extending that independantly of the
album.

it's true. i used to like some records, then hated them and
now i love them. or loved, then threw away and downloaded
again years after.

and ISDN is in my favs. with that "aliens" sample in the
beginning : "alright...let's see what we can
ssee...everybody online, looking good" - i first thought it
was Cobain or Dougan speaking :)
