I bought this on cd. the inside has some sort of poem on it
about pigeons. what did you think of the album? I fucking
love it. I'm addicted to it actually.

I thought his drum programming wasn't up to scratch on this
one.

I feel the same way ...

I like this one on the whole, although sometimes it lags a
bit (I'm getting tired of those climaxes where the drums
just go insane for a few minutes.)

I like the pigeon track. What the hell is the poem about,
and who is saying it? It cracked me up when I first heard
it.

I`m going to buy the CD. I heard/read tht this is his best
release to date. But you don`t seem to be too enthusiastic
about it...

it's just a concept album, venetian snares is very VERY good
at doing beats, but isn't all that good at melodies texture
etc.. even for classical this isn't really anything special,
however the breakcore/classical crossover is definitely
something rarely seen, I can only imagine that people who
would recommend this album, do not have much experience and
understanding in the genre that VS excells at

all I'm saying is it's crap for venetian snares, anyone who
prefers this over his other releases has just been waiting
for an excuse to say "look look, he's made something
somewhat intellectual, now stupid IDM eletists like us who
can't enjoy anything unless someone says it's a musical
masterpeice (which it isn't) can enjoy it"

What if just for a day we could both be pigeons?
Sometimes one moment in time can take on such an important
significance that it becomes and endless world unto itself
and everything outside of that moment, past and future spots
in time, become the folklore of the world
What if we could both fly over the Kiralyi Palota and see it
just as these pigeons do? A beautiful culture of dissimilar
angles as donkey angels above the city.
But even in the world of the infinite moment, we cannot
choose the feather of our bird and the pigeon may long to be
the goose, the donkey the pigeon and so on. Furthermore as
our world blossoms out of this single tick in time, it is
for one pigeon a swirling romantic flood of euphoric
possibility and fascination, for the other an inferior life
of shitting on everyone from the sky, awkward and ashamed,
resigning themselves to be the wrteched nuisance they are
painted as by those they shit on.
Ultimately, as quickly as our world blooms, our world is
discordant and our pigeons are wounded and as our world
dies, we die, and we are extinct. If only we could kill
ourselves over and over until we get it right.
So just as an entire hgenre can be born out of one sped up
ten second breakbeat, a full symphony orchestra can come
together in perfect unison to create that perfect moment in
time, thus every moment can give birth to an entirely new
world, and every world can house the perfedct moment, and
just as that breakbeat may be broken beyond any recognition,
that orchestra can combine to bring forth a dissonant
barrage of colossal sorrow, and so the moment disintegrates
it's world and that world suffocates the moment under it's
collapse.
These are love songs and grief songs.

On paper its should be excellent. I didn't believe Xammax
when he said the leak was disapointing, I really thought and
wanted it would blow everything away. But really, I don't
think it touches his other stuff, really. I've listened to
it once or twice but there's no moments of complete "fuck
this is out there" calibre, for me.

I am no elitist but i think it is his best work. Before that
i thought higgins was his best.

offline Dannn_ from United Kingdom on 2005-06-26 14:13 [#01644434]
Points: 7877 Status: Lurker

i don't think it's his best because the style doesn't feel
as though it's particularly natural to him like his best
work does, but it's great because it's different and he's
trying something new and its fun and its focused and perhaps
easier to digest than some of his other releases.

Sure, I have no beef with Rossz, but its not as
groundbreaking as I thought it would be.

But hey, listening to that meathole track on snares' myspace
- I think this one will be very interesting indeed!

i love rossz. when i heard it i knew i'd run out and buy it.
it was just the right album at just the right time.
meathole isn't sounding as fresh. i think the best 'dark'
album aside from dollx3 was find candace. i put that in the
other day and remembered why i loved this guys music.

when i first heard "moonglow / bitter earth"
the mp3's i dl'd musta been recorded @ 45 rpm.

i dl'd em again a few months back
recorded @ 33'n'1/3rd rpm.

totaly different feel..
just as awesome if not more so.

ive got those files somewhere.
ill have to dig em out for another listen.
think i found them around the same time but didnt quite get
the same vibe as that bitter earth track..

if not vsnares is there someone
else who does similar kinda stuff.
its almost dj shadow-ish.
just real nice break programing.

That release is really not like the majority of his stuff
unfortunately. But you could do worse than check out the
more melodic end of his spectrum - Winter in the Belly of a
Snake is perhaps the closest to the Bitter Earth sound, but
pretty different. Check it out though, it will knock you
down.
