Oh god man get over it, the fact that some people have other
points of view and you making a scapegoat out of other
members/the mods make this place unbearable, I come here day
after day and it's the same shit, why don't you grow up,
this endless argument and the constant bullshit on this
board with the overreaction of some of the mods leading to
fued wars make me want to puke my guts I'm thinking of not
coming here anymore but when I do come back it's the same
and then I realise I was right not to come here anymore as
you're all a bunch of wankers that can't just fucking talk
civilly and have to reduce yourselves to the state of
animals constantly banging on and on and on and on about the
same bullshit that doesn't matter this is a music forum

I'm joking. Though I think the concept of Choice has been
discussed elsewhere, and I don't mean on this board, though
it probably has. Who gives a shit?

Yes, it's deep alright, one of the BIG DEEP SUBJECTS
"Choice" is, right up there with "What's it all about?",
"Life after death?" and "Why don't girls like me?"

ooh ooh! I can answer this one

"Why don't girls like me?"

Well thats because there are a variety of people with
different personalitys. Alot of times our idea of "perfect"
or "ideal" may not always align with what we should be with.
That and also it variates depending on your location. If you
go to the same places 24/7 then you cant meet a great
percentage of the over 6-8 billion people out there.

I just met a great girl when i drove over 60 miles to go to
a strip club. We got along, shared laughs and exchanged
numbers. I will call her soon.

the concept of fate is some of that crap hippies make up

you could argue that our society encourages fatalism - with
a lack of choice.

offline r40f from qrters tea party on 2005-06-20 20:26 [#01639067]

if you're talking about fate, you have to prove that this
abstraction is somehow real, not the other way around.
prove that it somehow exists is the dilemma.

if you're talking about personal freedom and politics,
that's something that can actually be discussed.

and i don't believe in the statement you made. it's some
crap hippies made up.

Everything we do is logical and with our own individual
pleasure as the ends. So we are restricted from free will
by the limits of our own logic.

offline mylittlesister from ...wherever (United Kingdom) on 2005-06-20 20:56 [#01639074]

I'm sure there are many people in this world who act without
logic, and are simply socialised to behave in certain ways.

No, their logic just leads them to think that following
socially accepted norms will achieve their goals the best.

conciuosness is undeniable, it's proven that consiousness
can directly afect reality. choice lies in conciousness. if
existance has a reason it lies there.

We have a free will that is limited by circumstance. But
just because other factors and goals can limit our freedom
of choice, does not mean we have no free will at all.
My bullshit opinion, anyway. Besides, if I'm not controlling
myself, I don't know who the fuck is.

someone could have hypnotised you and you wouldnt even know
it because they would have hypnotised you into forgetting
you were ever hypnotised.

I don't believe in free will. I don't like the idea that I
might have to take responsibility for any of my actions.

Isn't that just denying the obvious control you *do* have
over your own actions? If you make choices for the actions
you take, you are responsible for them.

Not if I am fated to make those choices.

In case the joke wasn't obvious enough, I will now submit a
smiley, with its tonque sticking out. -> :P

Heh, I had a strong suspicion you were joking. :-)

But then again, I have read people who serious propose the
argument you meant. So I was a little frightened.

Untimately, it's one of those things where I do the most
with what I do know-I may not have free will, but living as
if I do makes sense, is logical, and works.

I just kind of believe in making sensible decisions, and
trying to make sensible actions. It doesn't really matter in
the end any way.

Here is a picture I took at the aquarium.

i don't know why you believe this, but i don't think it's a
"good"/safe belief.
now you have an excuse not to do anything at all, blame
everything on fatality and let your life get worse and
worse...
