neat topic! here's my humble contribution. it might sound like everything is really exaggerated but it's actually my microphone (a röde, geeky audio buffs) that's kinda sensitive and i cranked the recording input up to 11. but i'll admit that the burp was slightly forced... pardon. |

I have a cheap 10ish dollar microphone. It always has a fair ammount of white noise in the background of recordings. Anyone know if the microphone itself is likely at fault, and if so what's a fairly cheap model with very little white noise? |

Generally, cheap microphones have a tenancy to add sound to anything you record. I think it has something to do with both the signal to noise ratio and its frequency response. Its a bit long winded to describe, but if you look into one of these - only $60 american (american dollars and Tuvalian dollars are on par, right) - you should get a very good recording. I haven't used one myself, but have heard very good things. I use one of . On paper they are practically the same microphone, although the frequency responce isn't as good with the sony. |

Thanks for the help. I'll search for these used on ebay as my computer is a very fragile ecosystem where it's not worth the extra money for new when there's only a 50 percent chance it'll work anyway. My computer hums adding to the white noise, but I could maybe have enough tech saviness to fashion some sort of long, "chord" in techy terms, away from it. |

I see. Might I suggest maybe insolating it in styrophome, allowing space for the on switch, disc drives and the rear part? Also, if you were to go to a radio shack or a dollar store, it would probly cost you around $10 to find or fashion a cord longer than 15 feet. |
