no not dvd extras, but actor extras. i thought i knew this
show insdie out but some of these i didn't not ever would
have realised.

ok you will alredy know about timothy spall and ruby wax
were in timeslides but did you know of these:

sabrina mulholland jajones (also in timeslides) is played by
KOO STARK

captain tau in psirens is played by ANITA DOBSON

nirvana crane in holoship is JANE HORROCKS (how did miss
that one)

also, alan rickman was 1st choice for rimmer and alfred
molina was considered for lister, but it was thought it
might me difficult to get them back for a further series if
it became successful.

hugh laurie, david baddiel and norman lovett also auditioned
for lister.

I finally get some mone again!

however, are those actors you mentioned somewhat local
celebrities? only one I'd heard of before was alfred molina
and alan rickman...

One of my best friends is obsessed and I've been borrowing
all the DVDs. I was really annoyed when it disappeared from
terrestrial tv for a while so I stopped watching for quite a
while.

But hey, great show. Smeg.

I've still got high hopes that there may be a Red Dwarf
movie coming, or maybe a series 9 :D

i thought it was more

a) get back into the public eye to keep your celebrity
profile up

b) to pay off a backlog of alimony

And don't forget Mark Williams as Petersen and that bloke
from Eastenders as Chen in series 1...and Craig Ferguson as
Confidence...I could probably go on, but I really should
stop ;-)

lock stock and 2 smoking barrels connections:

the scouse guy who's mate used to be in 'bread' was lister's
'sperms-in-law', and the wonderful danny john-jules who
tells the story of the guy who refuses to turn the tv over
in the pub, haha! :)

arthur smith, tony hawks, clare grogan, tony slattery.

i love the arthur smith bit. it mustve been around 1990 he
did the episode when he talks backwards, which is genuinely
recorded forwards and reversed. and i quote:

"You are a stupid, square-headed, bald git, aren't you? I
ain't pointing at you, I'm pointing at you. But I'm not
actually addressing you, I'm addressing the one prat in the
country who's bothered to get hold of this recording, turn
it round, and actually work out the rubbish that I'm saying.
What a poor, sad life he's got!"

The guy who played Chen in series one was the same guy who
played Nigel in eastenders.

bob holness also showed up as a ball of energy once, along

ball bag

oh yeah the cockney with the oirish accent

lol @ ball bag, i had the pleasurable experience of meeting
my brother in law and his friend both from that area, both
of who preceded to call each other ball bags roughly every
30 seconds

so sandi toksvig was just playing herself then?

french and saunders were considered to play lister and
rimmer at some point. And in the episode 'camile' the female
versions of kryten and lister were played by the real life
wife of robert llewellyn and girlfriend of craig charles...

did you know the movie was planned just after season 6? they
were only allowed to make it if they hired a 'sexy female
crewmember to bring in the young male audience' or
something. so they brought in chloe annett for 2 seasons, to
give the audience enough time to get used to her. you'd
think the movie would be finished by now.
