i went to his gig last night and loved it!! they were
playing for almost two and a half hours. it was sort of
acoustic version this time because he only had 3 bad seeds
members along (violinist, drumer and bass guitarist, nick
was on piano) and they're only going to play 5 gigs of this
kind (two in my home town) of this kind. he's awesome at
interacting with the crowd, he was constantly talking to us
and the band, he even played couple of songs on request - he
even forgot how to start those songs so he asked someone to
sing a bit so he could remember :) the music part was
brilliant, they really function great together, and nick's
voice is just fantastic. they were real aggressive on some
songs (tupelo was wicked!!) and the violinist broke his
strings couple of times and nick started to make fun of him
imedately..also he said the drumer to keep it down a bit
because he was real heavy on some parts - everyoone started
to laugh then and nick was like; he's on drugs, but he's
alright, just keep it down..
i love his stuff, always so morbid, even if the lyrics are
sort of more optimistic..and the sad songs just want to tear
my heart appart..i definitely prefer his music live though,
it gets much much more touching. <3

how popular is he in uk btw? i mean he really has a lot of
fans in these parts of the world, i wonder if it's like that
everywhere..because it's a bit odd that he's having 4 out of
5 gigs of this sort over here.

Cool that you thought his gig was cool. I got his latest
album(s) many months ago but only recently ''got'' it. Quite
a deep piece of work.

What do you think of the Birthday Party, you like them?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2005-06-17 08:50 [#01635786]

yeah, they were pretty great! much more cheerful, which is
great to listen to at times im not too depressed :)

The first Birthday Party is my favorite Nick Cave joint and
one of my favorite albums ever. The yelping and the barking
and the crazy tunes. But the last couple of BP albums don't
grab me so I'm glad he went solo, it was meant to be.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2005-06-17 09:12 [#01635818]

oh, i must check if i have that first one..i know i only
have two, i thought that was all there was! and i don't
really see it like he went too solo. bad seeds give a lot of
them in what they do i think, their music suits his lyrics
fantastic!

True, Nick has a lot of great backup, it ain't no solo gig.
But you know what I mean.

The first one is the''Boys Next Door'' album, the one with
Happy Birthday, Friend Catcher, Riddle House, Mr. Clarinet,
etc. Those songs drive me up the wall.

It's quite groovy, actually. Bass is in the forefront on a
lot of the songs. I think I'll enjoy this album a lot.

3/5 after first listen, it's not boring but it's not that
mind blowing either. might be a grower ! at least it's not
another Cave's "ballad" album, that's good
