I was just wondering what you guys (being largely
electronic music fans/experts)thought of this album as it is
probably my favorite of all time.

It was billed as an "electronic" album and a Aphex copy but
i don't see it like this at all. It has loads of guitar on
it they are just used in a different more subtle way, the
textures and production are mesmerising.
It has wonderful flow, split up nicely by Treefingers. It is
the most complete record i have heard and has no flab or
duff tracks, 49 minutes of perfection from one of the
greatest bands of all time.
The standout tracks for me are the brooding National Anthem
and the beautiful In Limbo. This album takes me somewhere
else.

So what is the general concensus?

I like Radiohead a lot and this is one of my favorite albums
from them.

I'm not sure if many here share my view...

it was my first radiohead album, I'm probably one of hte few
people that got into radiohead not knowing that:

a) they were a rock band
b) they were popular

and it wasn't until I got ok computer that I realised they
were actually a fully fledged rock group.

I love the album, optimistic can have my children.

Brilliant.

And it's extremely far from Aphex, I don't really see much
likeness at all.

Theres something about it that has my jaw hitting the floor,
it's definately a headpones record.

Yes. I don't like Radiohead when they go all out electronic
(The Gloaming, Where Bluebirds Fly) because the beat
programming is really quite simple and not interesting to
me, I can see why Aphex called it 'cheesey' however I love
it when they mix the synths with guitars/voice/saxamophones
etc.

It annoys me when people say the song Kid A is a rip-off of
Flim cause i really dont hear it.

I would assume it would have been rock reviewer saying that,
and that they didn't know what they were on about, so they
referenced the only electronica act they knew.

Yeah, it's a pretty moronic comparison, but it's a pretty
classic one as well.

I heard that aswell Key, or was it fingerbib?

Someone also said it was out of date which i dissagree with
because its not a sonic experiment its just a great record..

I think you could call it cheesy if all the songs were like
the opening two, but there is funky shit like The National
Anthem and Optimistic which are really nasty and angry which
stop it sounding like Krafwerk with unemotional vox and
stylings

I think they are two sides of the same coin and really
compliment each other thematically and sonically.

I found "Kid-A" too depresing for me. however innotive they
may be my fragile existence can do without lines like "lemon
juice on my wounds"

I don't recall that line?! he sings "yesterday i woke up
sucking a lemon" quite a funny line i thought...

that's probably the line, strange I always remember it going
on my wounds. Still, sucking a lemon at the first light of
day is depressing, I mean waking up sour is not somthing I
want my subconcious to be listening to.

make them out to be more depressing than they are but
still....

Thom Yorke walked past my car in Cornwall, true story. I
then met his next door neighbour the next day, he was a
surfboard-rental dude. It was somewhat surreal.

..erm, right.

Anyway, Kid A is a great post rock related album, and
probably there most textured and experimental. I'm waiting
for them to make an album to top it, but I doubt they will
although I'm sure they have a lot of good music in them
still.

For years the only Radiohead record I had was Pablo Honey
and then last year I bought Hail to the Thief, Kid A and the
Bends, and I was given Amnesiac. I was pleasantly
surprised.
I don't really care how technically acomplished a record is,
as long as it sounds good. They sound good.

Also, I don't really get the "Radiohead are depressing"
thing. They're not. They're just Radiohead.

i think i prefer kid a and amnesiac to all the other
radiohead albums. you can definately hear some small
afx, autechre&co influences - but mainly in the sounds they
use, and not in the way they use them.

the track kid a gets my top spot on there, i think -
probably because they've masked thom yorke's
occasionally-annoying voice. ;)
motion picture soundtrack could easily take that spot away
from kid a, depending on which i've most recently listened
to.

i heard that for kid a (the track) he just spoke it and
pitch shifted it.
hey, i used to a big radiohead fan (check out my collection,
ok computer, running from demons, kid a lmt, amnesiac, i
might be wrong, hail to the theif, comlag) but after i saw
em live at their Melbourne show (the one where thom had his
throat infection :S ) i started to listen to other stuff.

Thanks to radiohead i got into electronic music. cheers

The purely electronic tracks on this album are pretty
useless (but atleast they show they're not afraid to
experiment - which is one of the main reasons why i like
them).
The electronic-rock crossover tracks are fantastic. Those
are what electronic-rock crossover tracks should sound like.
And they seem to be getting better at it with each new
album.

love kid a. i'd never listened to radiohead until there was
a discussion on here about the track idioteque and how
electronic it was :) i severely dislike hail to the thief,
and the rest of their records fall in between those two
extremes. it's hard to not have respect for some of the
stuff they've done, even if you're not crazy about how it
sounds.

try and track down the bootleg of Thom solo on Oct 26th/27th
'02. Great pared down version of Everything in it's right
place, but his singing is better than on the record. Amazing
stuff.
