Help! Ableton Midi Question

I want to have multiple midi channels in live set up to
control a single vst. My computer cannot handle opening up
multiple instances of the same vst, so i need to be
efficient in my usage.

Could someone please help me figure out how to control one
vst instrument through different midi tracks in live?

Tanks

Does your VST support multiple midi channels in the first
place? If it doesn't that might be because it will not
support seperate operations due to limited range of
polyphonic (assuming you are using a SYNTH type vst and not
a sampler or whatever else...).

Try to find an option that says OMNI. If you can switch
something to OMNI:ON that may be the answer you are looking
for.

Honestly, I don't know ableton that well, but in cubase the
option is right there in the channel settings. Are you using
a pc or a mac? 512 megs of ram for a pc goes for about 50
dollars nowadays, so if you were to just invest a couple
dollars into some upgrades (say, 100 dollars to get a full
gig of ram for your computer), you will increase the
processing power of your pc.

You have a full gig of ram and are having problems running
multiple incidents of the same vst?

What vst plugins are you talking here? Some work different
from others.

It might not actually be possible with ableton. For things
like this, I suggest cubase. Cubase makes it pretty easy.

create 3 channels: 1 for the vst (i'll call it "synth"), and
2 for the midi notes and data (i'll call them "music1" and
"music2").

set MIDI IN for "synth" to All Inputs. set the monitor to
ON.
set MIDI OUT for "music1" and "music2" to "synth".

is this what you're wanting to do?

i don't have access to my music computer right now, so i
can't be 100% sure this is correct, but give it a try.
