well, hmm... maybe you could come to quebec.. that's like, a
pretty good compromise, right?

plus, then we could maybe track down and stalk the elusive
(no relation) fleetmouse.

i fell in love with with a few girls at algonquin national
park in canada. then i quickly flipped my canoe and sank it
3 feet away from the dock, and right in front of them and i
paddled off in shame...

well until a Torontonian gives you an actual answer, i'm
just gonna suggest walking up and down Queen Street and
such... some nice record stores, and other such delights to
be found there...

(you may be asking yourself "how the heck did epohs paddle
away a sunken canoe?", well the attendant dudes helped me
pull the canoe out of the lake, and i stood around all
soaked while they showed me how to put on a life jacket.
then i paddled away.)

Here are some Jungle listings for the next few days.

The Blue Jays are playing the Cardinals tonight. Again -
not sure if you care to see some baseball.

RJD2 is playing here on the 22nd of June - don't know if you
care...

On Wednesdays Crazy Strings plays at the Silver Dollar Room
(Spadina just above College) which is always fun. Excellent
Bluegrass music.

Food suggestion. Gandhi Cuisine on Queen St west of Spadina
- east of Bathurst - $8 Chicken Medium Roti (if you like it
spicy - mild if you don't).

That's all I got. I just moved here about 5 months ago...

it rhymes with paddled.

Toronto is my home, but you have left and i dance alone in
the streets that are melting from the heat.
yes, that's right, the tar in the asphalt is actually
sticking to people's feet!
we're in a heatwave, heateave, heatwave.
that is all from this young knave...

i prefer small towns in the middle of nowhere in ontario to
toronto.

that's not a slight against the city, since it can be pretty
nice, but just the way it's always been for me.

and i'll have to go there a lot in the next three years.
blah.

perhaps i'll adapt.

beaver tails..
has anyone ever tried one?
i remember they had a little stand that sold them in
ottawa..
that was years ago..
very tasty.. they are like donut batter with various
flavourings.
poured into a deep frier and they kinda spread out and make
a shape like a beaver tail.

killaloo (think thats how you spell it) sunrise was a fave.
it is the original recipe i think.. rolled in cinamon and
with some lemon juice poured over the top.. yum yum.

all you pussies that can't handle toronto.. you suck :)

broken phillip:
it depends on what you want to do, how old are you (if you
are 19 and over) - so that you can get into bars/clubs, and
how much money you are willing to spend.

i haven't been going out for a long time cuz of a
combination of work and laziness so i can give an idea of a
few places to check out while you're in town:

- there's a lounge on 49 Front St. E. called down one lounge
http://www.toronto.com/infosite/148385/

- there's nasa dance pub on 609 Queen St. W but their
website seems to be completely gone so im not sure if they
are still open - but you can check it out

- if you like thai food, check out 'thai chili' on the queen
st. w strip - you can get a large plate of pad thai for
under $7

- if you like sushi, check out 'crispy roll' on the same
side of queen st. w that 'thai chili' is on..

- there's two small records stores that might be of interest
to you if you're into indie/idm/hard to find stuff:
penguin music http://www.penguinmusic.com/

rotate this http://www.rotate.com/

- if you walk south to the lakeshore, and it's nighttime
(after 7), you can enjoy the harbourfront food and shows.
they change nightly, but you can find out more information
at http://www.harbourfrontcentre.com/noflash/frontpage.php
although i should note that this site is only for events at
harbourfront centre, there's a lot more that happens daily
on the green
im not sure when, but either this weekend or next weekend or
something, it's going to be the (get ready for it) toronto
electronic music festival *rolls eyes*
it's pretty shit i think, unless you're into hip hop and
popular techno/house - it'll be listed somewhere on that
site

offline jenf from Toronto (Canada) on 2005-06-17 13:05 [#01636229]
Points: 1062 Status: Lurker

- if you go to harbourfront and walk a little east, you can
grab a boat ride to the toronto islands - there's a zoo on
centre island, and they have the zonkys - those donkey and
zebra hybrids :) but im warning you, stuff that you buy on
the island is usually overpriced.

- a good bookstore for small press and eclectic reads is
pages bookstore: http://www.pagesbooks.ca/
i buy all my charles bukowski books from there :)

- if you head north a bit on spadina, you can hit up
chinatown and kensington market (which is like hippie town),
i'll give you the address of a coffee shop in kensington and
then you can figure your way around from there:
http://www.moonbeancoffee.com/scripts/default.asp
they sell good organic teas and coffees
if you go there in the afternoons on weekends especially,
then you will likely see some crazy drunk guy strumming on
his blues guitar or a bunch of pseudo squeegee kids, hippie
couples, kids, dogs, cats, weird eastern euro old people,
hot people, etc

ok i hope that's good enough for now :)
if you want more places, i'll me know on this thread.. i
gotta get back to work..
