they're reuniting for the live 8 concert (the article calls it the original
line up, but of course there's no syd barrett)

i've just stuck on dark side of the moon, first time to
listen to it in quite some time. what an album. speak to me
/ breathe in the air has to be one of the most beautifully
perfect songs ever written. blissful!

great gig in the sky is for me the best use of vocals in any
song

not really :) depends where you come from perhaps.

get dark side of the moon.. always a nice place to start. i
don't think anything else they ever made came close to
touching its perfection.

This is great news! Roger Waters playing with them. The real
Floyd, for the first time since 1981!!!

I wish I was going. FLOYD RULE!

i'm quite shocked by the news but good on them, it's for a
good cause i suppose. but i don't think it will stretch as
far as a new album. apparently gilmour has already recorded
some new songs for a new album.

I prefer 'The Wall' actually, not sure why. Song like the
title track and 'Money' just have a pseudo-psychadelic
atmosphere about them which makes them stunning to listen
to, rather like the early Doors material. I never got that
near-kathatic reaction from any of the songs on 'Dark
Side...'

The thing is, that all of the albums up to the final cut are
really awesome.

The last two are kind of gash though.

I think the wall beginst to lack quality (musically)

its a nice opera rock, with a nice concept, but sometimes it
has weak musical moments

its not as good as its predecesors...

the final cut imo is bad

you could not see a weak track in dark side, wish you were
here, animals...

Pretty cool, though it's not my ideal Pink Floyd. It's Pink
Floyd, not THE Pink Floyd.

I don't want a new album but I can't wait to see this
concert.

Really? Thats quite interesting news. Do you think its kind
of late in the game for them? Could a new album even measure
up to the bar that they created and raised?

I would be very curious to hear that

it's clear waters still wrestles with his concious with syd.
he still seems upset over what happened 35 years ago.

some of ummagumma is really good. the live album is ok but i
feel uncomfortable listening to gilmour playing barrett
songs. the studio album is 50-50, nick mason & richard
wright are throwaway, but gilmour's the narrow way and
waters grantchester meadows / several species are fantastic,
both of which save the albums from being a total nightmare.

they even thought so too, which is why the called it
ummagumma - i.e. what a disaster.

Other than DSOTM + Animals i find post Syd Barrett Pink
Floyd really dull. Meddle + Piper at the Gates Of Dawn are
absolute genius. If you haven't already listen to
Interstellar Overdrive off Piper, one of the best intros
ever then it turns into this mishmash of twangy guitar and
lightning fast bass.

Syd rules, get Madcap Laughs aswell
