a couple nights ago i was perusing through the touch
records catalogue and queing several of there releases on
soulseek to sample them.

this one really stood out to me

a lengthy, four track ambient peice. it starts out with a
single tone, then builds upon it. a lot of bass in this
work. when it blends into the second track it brings in some
more ambience a light guitar array and some very light
sporatic drums. the third track plays much like the second
but more melodic and dense. bassy, frequency cutting tones
then blending into much more prominent drums and piano
(possibly some guitar ontop as well) it ends with a very
length 20 minutes fourth track. blending the bass tones
heard from before and a repeating single piano note, then in
comes a very slow and light melody from more tones overtop
the piano.

it's a very nice release and i like it very much. this will
be in my next order.

i love Ambarchi in general... i found this album a bit
uneven, insofar as i think the second track is brilliant,
and the others vary from good to so-so... it was interesting
to hear him branching out a bit and incorporating other
instrumentation other than his trademark dulled bassy guitar
tones, some of the brushwork is especially nice (i've always
been a sucker for brushes), but then, on the other hand, i
think he simplified his approach a bit... so it's maybe not
as satisfying as some of his other stuff... at any rate it's
definitely a great entry point into his work and i think a
lot of people on this board would totally dig it (and its
entirely possible that i'm underrating it somewhat, my
opinion changes a bit, every time i throw it on)... plus:
lush lush cover artwork from Jan Wozencroft (as always)

it's been a pretty quiet year for Ambarchi so far, in fact,
i'm pretty sure he hasn't put out anything... but i'm
definitely lookin' forward to this one: Erstwhile046-2
(double CD): four gentlemen of the guitar (Keith Rowe/Oren
Ambarchi/Christian Fennesz/Toshimaru Nakamura)-"cloud"

it looks like it'll be out in a month or so... i hear it's
gonna be sweet-ass sweet...

it's a tough call... really depends what you're lookin'
for... i can think of several albums that are really really
solid in some way or another...
as far as solo stuff goes:

Suspension is a really beautiful, sombre album that's
perfect for sleeping and/or rainy days

and then Triste is another cool solo disc that starts out
sounding like Eno, and ends up goin' a bit nuts by the
end...

as far as collaborative stuff goes (and he's done a lot of
good ones):
Oystered has always been a favourite of mine... it's
really really awesome noise that is very taut and
contained... it's like observing explosions occuring inside
some sort of thick membrane or something... really really
unique stuff

and then both his albums with Martin Ng are pretty cool,
very lush, minimal affairs with what sounds like a lot of
cymbal feedback type stuff (possibly?), maybe not as
interesting but far from unpleasant to get lost in...
linkage

if yr at all interested you know i'm on slsk, and i have
most of his stuff, either shared, or stowed away on data
discs (so it's no trouble to put them back up)...
