I don't understand the dislike fans have towards this album. I think some of the new versions (particularly Pocket Calculator and The Man Machine) are actually more enjoyable than the originals.
It's a very funky album, and its a different take on the old Kraftwerk classics. When I saw them live at Brixton Academy they performed hybrids of "The Mix" versions of tracks and the originals-it worked really well.

I wish people would start using the artists name or both instead of just the albums name in the titles of posts like these...

Sorry, forgot to write Kraftwerk in the title. I was listening to The Model while I wrote the subject title and assumed the word "kraftwerk" was there.

Plus, despite the fact there's already a Kraftwerk thread hovering at the top of the pile, you couldn't pass up the opportunity to make another thread.

Perhaps I wanted to discuss their album, "The Mix", and not derail a thread asking about when the DVD will be released? But it doesn't matter.

Alright, alright, ALRIGHT. I'll just do my usual innovators of techno, ahead of their time, idosyncratic reworkings of classic tracks, still relevant, godfathers of techno, Autobahn, Tour de France, godfathers of techno, electronic, Germans, robots, live, remixes, Expo remix, godfathers of techno, underrated, overrated. The Mix.

it may be unfairly maligned (though my vote for most unfairly maligned goes to "electric cafe"), but some of the mixes sound like cheesy attempts to update the tracks with late-eighties club cliches.
the musique nonstop mix is pretty nice, though.
it still gets a 4.2 on discogs, so it's not exactly widely disliked.

My impression from talking to other fans and reading other online reviews was that it was hated. I'm surprised about the 4.2 on discogs.
I really didn't enjoy Electric Cafe on the whole. I liked one or two tracks, but it sounded uninspired to me. :)

ah, yes. the old agree to disagree. i think "electric cafe" is an absolute breath of fresh air, short and to the point and absolutely inspired, barring the ridiculous lyrics of "sex object." then again, it was the first full length kraftwerk album i heard.
on a related point, i loved how kraftwerk appropriated detroit via berlin techno on "tour de france 2003" (though most of the album was, i think, pretty weak). much more successful than "the mix", at least on that one track.

I might have to give it another listen. My initial impressions might have been clouded by the general distain shown towards the album and my own bizzarely hight expectations.
I'm just look forward to recieving this: LAZY_TITLE

it's a bloody excellent album, i listened to this to death at university. it was such a fresh sounding kraftwerk at the time it was as good as a new album. great sounding update. radioactivity is my favourite, it was even released as a single.
