Can anyone give me some advice? I've made a hair
appointment for 4.30 this afternoon and am considering blond
highlights. Are they a good idea or a no-no?

This guy in Oxford shaved my entire body once...

then we went & fell asleep naked sunbathing on this bit of
wasteground...

If you've never had sunburnt itchy bollocks then you haven't
lived....

(Quite what this has to do with Highlights, I dunno...just
feeling a little confessional this morning I guess...)...

Confessions are welcomed. Honesty is the best policy. And
other cliches...

I already have a mullet but am a bit bored with it. I was
spiking it on the top a la Gary Rhodes but it was too much
effort of a morning.

The mullet gets a lot of stick, alittle unfairlty if you ask
me. That guy from North Wales who was punched by John
Prescott gave it some more profile, but alas its still
stigmatised.

Go for a skin head...its the one haircut that suits more or
less everyone...

I had long hippy hair, Aphex stylee, for about 5yrs but had
it all shaved off when some guy bet me a tenner to do
it...this is like 3yrs ago and I still have people asking me
where all my hair has gone...

(I'm very worried about your reference to Gary Rhodes....def
time to get the clippers out...)...

I would have a skinhead but I have big ears and so would
look like a wingnut. The far-right connections also put me
off.

You could bluetac your ears back....perhaps...

but yeah, agreed on the political connatations...as long as
you steer clear of DM boots, white T shirts & braces you
should be ok...but it was something I was a little worried
about, needlessly in the end....

It does make me look a bit Hard tho....which is kinda good
as I seldom seem to get into any trouble...

As a child I was bullied mercilessly for my generously
proportioned ears. I tried using blue-tak many times but the
sweat reduces the stickiness and they go 'pop' forward
again. I even tried sellotape, stick-fixers, superglue (bad,
very bad) but to no avail. I guess I just have to live with
them.

You have probably avoided trouble by living in Chelmsford,
well away from the squaddies in Colchester. I resided there
until recently and avoided the beatings. I think my mullet
put them off.

Just heard Natalie Imbruglia's new single on the radio.
She's lost it.

Colchester is cool... last time I was there we got chucked
out of a Wine Bar for taking the piss out of Karoke and
making someone cry...and the next place we went to, some
bloke was giving me hassle for "leaning on his wife" (I
didn't even realise she was there!!...I'd been "leaning"
there for about an hour so why she didn't say someting
sooner I don't know...)...

Chelmsford, I can't get used to yet...I'm a Braintree lad
really and miss my home town....

(I know a Ginger lad in Colc BTW, but I'm guessing it's not
you, Steve is it??)...

Oh no my friend. Colchester is VERY bad. I lived there for
three years and was glad to leave. I never made it to
Chelmsford though. People in Colchester are very
small-minded.

Its weird how people in different areas have different
characteristics. I'm from south Wales whre you can still
leave your front door open, and tape money to it.

Braintree eh? Isn't that Liam Howlett's home town?

Yep....that and The Barn are all we're really famous
for...(and not that many people have heard of the Barn)...

It weird seeing the Prodge on MTV...the second time I saw
them live, it was at the Braintree Institute, which is like
a Church Hall where they have jumble sales and the
like...it's odd when people you know go on to global
superstadom whilst you continue with your ordinary
life...hohum...

BTW, speaking of hair, Liam used to have a wetlook Kevin
Keegan Perm when he was school...

What's the Barn? We have some of those on farms in Wales

Then again the less said about farms in Wales the better

The Barn used to be a club just outside Braintree....was
apparently famous during the 60s as the hangout for all the
Essex gangsters & The Krays...

But back in 88,89,90,91 etc.. it was home of the Essex rave
scene... Prodge met up there as did Sunscreme & Empirion
(who came from Colchester, every hear that "Drugs Are Taking
Their Lives away" song??)...

Tom J Squarepusher was also a regular & did a song that
mentioned the place - The Barn (303 Kebab mix)...

But it's been knocked down now and turned into a housing
estate...:(...

Ah right. Heard of Empirion but not the other. Have you seen
the cover to Luke Slater's album Freek Funk? The photos are
from Essex University in Colchester. I had the album for the
3 years I was there but never recognised it until a friend
pointed it out just before we left last summer. Apparently
Billy Nasty made a video there too.

Cass from Cass & Slide the prog house duo went there too
apparently.

that magazine rocked

Haven't seem the Luke Slater cover but I can well believe
it....that place looks like something out of Bladerunner...

Was apparently a hotbed of dissent back in the late 60s
early 70s...they turned it into a "Free" university and
anyone could just turn up and go to lessons...

(I saw the Prodge live there back in 92,in the underground
carpark.club thing) ... can remember wandering aroung the
grounds, off me tree...fucking with the Lifts)...

And speaking of Empirion...I was visiting a new Multimedia
lab they've setup in Braintree a couple of week back and
they've got the Empirions SH101 as part of their
studio...It's a small ol world INIT>...

Not heard of the magazine Highlights Zombiekev. American I
guess. Not as good as our 'Lookin' I'm sure.

Yeah Essex was taken over by the students. I know a guy who
was there at the time. Those days are well and truly gone
now though. Apathy rules

During the Miners Strike of 1984 the students put up some
miners in the tower blocks. They were picketing the small
port in Wivenhoe. Thatcher called the chancellor of the
university and told him that she would have it shut down if
the miners weren't removed. Facist cow!

just going to have to grow and stay ginger

Good for you...it would be nice to let it grow to
Thundercats proportions...Theres something very comforting
about big wide hair; must be something to do with growing up
in the 80s....

I never got any further than admiring their hair from afar
so don't really know who Cheetarah is....but you seem a
trustworthy sort so I'll take your word on your gorgeous
front...

Didn't they have something to do with He-Man?...my memory is
like 16K so it's all a bit fuzzy....

No, no, no, no. They were totally seperate. I know what you
mean though. There were always spin-off shows back in the
80s. He-Man did have a gorgeous sister though called She-Ra.
Ooo-la-la

I always was a little suspect of He-Man...I mean, with a
name like that it's just so obvious he subscibes to Jocks
Lockerroom magazine and hangs around in gyms a little too
much....

And don't get me started on that outfit...I'm surpised it
was shown pre-9pm...
