I'd sit waiting forr the songs I liked to be announced and I'd darrt to my tape playerr fingerr at the rready. The trricky parrt was always prressing stop afterr the song has finished but beforre the host SPEAKS.

yes just once.
daft punk - aerodynamic. actually my radio went a bit wonky and produced some strange noises on the song while recording, and the song actually sounded better than way. you can imagine my disappointment when i bought the single and got the lamer 'real' version.

Yeah, I taped New Kids on The Block "Hanging Tough" and other tunes from a chart show. They always faded in crowd noise, so it was difficult to properly time my pause-button edits.

Yep, used to keep a blank tape in the 'record' deck, cued up ready. The other deck was used for actual playing of tapes.

i never listened to the radio... and when i was too young to afford cds, at the beginning i didn't know any music at all then (when i was like, 14 or 15?) i downloaded mp3s off napster...
actually i'm glad i couldn't afford cds at the beginning because i would have bought a lot of crap cds.

i used to tape music of my C64 also. Turrican 2 had an especially good soundtrack. now whenever i listen to SID music it has this strange warming effect on me, i love the sound so much.

not only that, but i'd call the radio station repeatedly to try to get them to play songs i wanted to tape.
including: the theme from s.w.a.t. dance the night away by van halen down under by men at work switchin' to glide by the kings
i also made a tape that was "walk this way" by aerosmith over and over for 45 minutes.
those were the days...

I had my stereo hooked up to my tv so I would record songs off MTV, sometimes I would segway the songs with sex sounds I recorded from latenight showcase films. I was young.

I didn't have a radio with a tape deck, or visa versa, so I had to hold the clunky tape recorder up to the radio, so you got all sorts of backround sounds, coughing, creaking stairs, calls for cups of tea added to your hits. I recorded "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" off of the TV in a similar fashion.

No, never the radio. I used to tape videos off Much Music and watching them now... it's a retardedly fun time capsule! What with the commercials and all. And, like, videos. I'm a nostalgia freak so I like to stick one of these old videos in once in a while and travel back to 1995.
Actually the quality of the videos and artists they played was pretty good back then, at least with Much Music. I'd get runs of stuff like Sloan, the Tea Party, the Tragically Hip, Holly McNarland, 54-40, I Mother Earth, Matthew Sweet, Green Day, Collective Soul, Beck, the Prodigy, Wide Mouth Mason... not bad stuff at all.

Yes. I even have one of my first tapes somewhere in my drawer still. It was New Order - technique, whole album played by a cult local radio dj. And recorded with his comment after the record finished, something like "what an amazing record this is..."

i played this tape with pet shop boys 'it's a sin' and that track with dusty springfield (right?), 'what have i done to deserve this', until it snapped (also because i found out you could do funny things like slowing the tape down by pressing play lightly or pressing forward slightly when keeping play down :)

Fastball- The Way Fun Lovin' Criminals- Scooby Snacks

you could have spliced the tape back together with a piece of scotch-tape you know...
Before I discovered that, I took the broken ones, used small section of tape and moved it back- and forwards on the head to create a primitive scratching effect... pretty cool it was

there's no audible difference if you up the tape on the opposite side of where it is read. doesn't work that well if the cassette-tape is stretched tho..

yes i did. got two or three 90min tdk tapes at home in Melitopol with music recorded from radio exactly as you described - with finger ready on the record button.
If the host started to speak while the song still played - I rewinded the tape a little and started record next one over his voice in most cases.
