Can any Russian XLTers tell me what's happened to him? All
I've been able to make out is that he's in hospital with
serious gunshot wounds to the head. Haven't been able to
discover anything else... thanks.

Gany, you obviously mean Alexei Serov?

he was found unconscious and severely beaten downtown Moscow
on Monday after being missing for two days. they took him to
the hospital, where he was kept in intensive care for a
while. now he's a bit better. he regained consciousness, but
his condition is still reported as serious. (he got head
injuries, brain concussion and broken ribs... no gunshot
wound was confirmed, btw)

there are several versions considered by police. according
to the one of them, Alexei was beaten by robbers, who
attacked him and stole his mercedes. but some sources say
the accident has something to do with Alexei's conflict with
the band's manager...

anyways, hope the guy gets better soon.
i've never really cared for Diskoteka Avaria's music
(they're just one of those pop-bands popular among Russian
teenagers), but they've always seemed to be really nice and
unpretentious guys, with a great sense of humor...
especially Alexei.

Ah, well the article I originally saw on bbcrussian.com
called him Sergei -- Alexei must be his better-known
nickname. The article also used the phrase "s ognestrel'nym
raneniem" which I translated as "with firearm wounds".

I think my interest in this story is an example of the
principle that pop-music doesn't seem as idiotic when it's
in another language!

Blagodaryu Vas!
