Don't know about jazz :(

I think the Chess label was situated in Chicago, and I think there is a connection with Trax records too. Something with the owner of the pressing plant or something. I can't verify this trivia tho, perhaps someone can back this story up or tear it down.

Ken Vandermark is from chicago and is has become a big figurehead for modern jazz. Also, you have Jeff Parker and those folks from Tortoise who're involved in the chicago underground duo/trio/quartet and Isotope 217.
Chicago is home to the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians which has included musicians like Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. AACM runs workshops in the city to nurture new talent, it's great.

Detroit and Chicago blues scenes are sort of bundled together. I'm not sureif Chess was in Chicago or Memphis. There was a sister label too called Checker. I know Sonny Boy Williamson was signed there. Elmore James lived in Chicago i think. John Lee Hooker was in Detroit. I don't know much what I'm talking about.

all three of albini's bands are important and associated with chicago. big black, rapeman, shellac.
probably the most noteworthy hardcore/punk band is naked raygun. they are overlooked a lot, but they clearly influenced a lot of other important bands.
and of course you know ministry is from there...
the jesus lizard was based in chicago. very essential listening.

uh thanks again! i never heard of naked raygun..will check them out though!
as it turned out i didn't even need to know those questions today, but i'll have to look into it coz apperantly those are all essential moments of the music history. apperantly they were real pleased with the sample review about an album i made and the playlists.. and the test was obviously good enough hehe, although it was quite embarassing, oh well. apperantly i was the only one to mention throbbing gristle as the beginners of industrial, as apperantly everyone else was naming ministry and alike..i got a hint the music editor is their big fan though :) oh and he loved the fact i put jesus lizard in the playlist (that was a hint as well to be honest, but im quite a fan as well so i would have put it anyway i think).
anyway, i now have a bunch of stuff to do..the toughest is going to be a show about some domestic (my home town) band, preferably someone overlooked and not too prolific..hmm
