i've read this: http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/65475/ and thought... this must be the best game ever! real life haxxorz, spies, corporations et al.
then downloaded the demo but can't connect to the server cause of some blocked port somewhere, fail.

I used to play that game back in the day, my char was created in '03. I'm not sure how new players would do in this game now seeing as you gain skill by the amount of time your account has been active.
It might seem like a blast at first but once the skills start taking multiple months to level it gets kinda painful and you will just want to start crying.
On top of that there will be pimped out pirates camping low level zones because there are assholes like that in that game.
Worth the free trial but don't be fooled, after your first or second paid month you will probably quit unless you find a really good corp to run with who knows what they are doing.

Thats like a lot of MMO's. They are doing this thing right now so you have a 100% bonus to your training speed until it hits 1600000 skill points. If your training all the time then you won't have as much downtime to make a character that kicks ass.

Ugh. That got boring quick.
I like the combat and immersiveness, but can't stand the travel time and training time.

Yeah, it can be extremely slow paced. I would always run it windowed and lose interest after a couple of hours playing.
They made some really weird design choices that really put me off. Like making you an easy target on auto-pilot because the auto-pilot can't warp close enough to the gates. Traveling manually is really, really boring. Waiting for skills is really, really boring and made me forget about the game.
The interface is good looking but it behaves so sluggish and slow. I loved the concept and the idea, but you gotta be damn hardcore to get into this "game". Totally different from the constant gratification you get from something like WoW.
