eheh, no nothing important, i confused your alias, no prob.

yeah, that (the relationship between language and thought)
really fascinates me aswell. It's confined mostly to the
realm of Sociolinguistics and Neurolinguistics I believe.

I'd go for it if you have an interest in it.. But because
it's a very wide-ranging subject with many topics, i'd
advise you investigate all of them (or whatever ones are
taught on the course) to see if you'd be interested in the
majority of them.

Phonetics was pretty fucking boring for me. Learning all the
different positions of the tongue in the mouth, and the
state of the other speech organs, just wasn't very
interesting for me.. too much biology..

yeah, I think it's pretty divided in our university, so I
can take classes that doesn't have any phonetics and stuff
like that.. just those nice basics and tiny pieces of the
language!

I'll take it easy on tridenti sure, as long as he posts
worthwhile posts.

Anyhow. Ireland. Everywhere's great to drink beer.
everywhere's also very fucking expensive. in town it costs
between 4.20 - 5 euros for a pint of beer (some places,
really shit upperclass rich places which you don't want to
go to, even charge about 8 euros for a pint). places i like
to frequent are mostly in my college (v cheep drink) or else
Doyle's (on college green), chaplain's (very small old-man's
pub) or "4 dame lane".

you'll forget this info by tomorrow though but it doesn't
matter. i mean you'll find your way around no problem.

Temple bar is great. can be dangerous at night, but then
again so can everywhere else.

Temple bar music centre hosts good electronica gigs... if
there's someone weird or wonderful playing (like vsnares)
it'll be in here in the TBMC. Bassbin (weekly drum n bass
club) has also moved back here, every saturday. could move
again before you're over though.

sweet! well then, i'd really advise it, if you have an
interest in the fundamentals of language.

If you do take it up, i hope you enjoy it. Do keep us
informed.

I'm off to get some cigarettes and do my laundry. have spent
far too long typing shitetalk on this thread :)

in Milan (very expensive city) i pay 3.00/4.00€ for a
small beer and and 6/7/8 for a medium beer, it depends from
the pub. here you pay for a long drink as gin tonic about
8.00 euro.

do you know which thing worry me more? the streets, 'cos i
rented a car and i'm not used to drive on the left... "my

One year I spent a summer excavating an old grave yard on
the island of Krk in Croatia. I had to drive down that
coastline a few times. I have to say that Krk was beautiful
apart from the dirty great petrol refinery right next to it.
Fuck thinking about it makes me sad as they were happy times
in good company. Pah.

ah, i see! krk is nice, yes..dunno about that refinery
though - you mean the rijeka one? anyway, i went accross
that big bridge in the middle of the night with a large
group of other drunk teenagers..that was fun, not.

offline Quernstone from Padova (Italy) on 2005-05-16 10:27 [#01600717]

Ha, that bridge is awesome! I swam all around there.
Lushness. Fucking wierd remebering it all now sat in an
office with grey wet weather outside. The refinery was the
Rijeka one. I can just remember going down this dusty track
to the old ruined church under hot skies every morning and
the whole ambience being ruined when we looked out to sea.
Such a shame.

Im part Italian. I have a big long italian last name and
when I was a kid was often embarresed of it when all the
other kids had such boring normal last names. Like good
Americans should. Now, I like it. I mean it's long people.
9 letters. and it ends in an "o". Naturally. Im proud to be
atleast somewhat Italian. They are the prettiest people on
the planet.

I was in KRK island 6 years ago but I didn't like it. I
stayed 2 days in a small (and ugly) place called "Vbrnik"
and then me and my gf run away. Fortunately we found a
beautiful apartment in Crickvenicka and we had good days
there.

The following year, we stayed in same apartment in
Crickvenicka, then we visited the Plitvice Waterfalls,
Zagreb, Rjieka, etc...

I remember some word of Croatian language... "Svjetlo Pivo".
I remember we drunk a beer called Karlovascko.

Pivo! yup, a very useful word and one of the first I learnt
too. The inland part of Krk was lovely. I never got to see
the waterfalls which was a shame but we drove all around the
island on our days off working.

Do alot of Italians go to KRk? For what reason?

a lot of italians in general visit croatia..in the summer
half of the tourists in istria are italians. it's cheap and
the beaches are nicer than beaches in northern part of italy
:)

woofer, that place is called crikvenica and the beer
karlovacko.

keep hand on your pocket wallet... ppl there are king of
thefts and tricks.
