Gotta disagree. RE4 is definitely an amazing looking game,
but I just can't concede that RE4 with it's cop-out
letterbox format and terrible HD support compares to Ninja
Gaiden running with all the perks the Xbox makes possible.
RE4 is a bit of an ugly mess on high end, far far below
Ninja Gaiden, Doom 3 or Splinter Cell- CT.

But you're making a big deal about art and I agree that
that's important. RE4 is an artistic masterpiece. But it's
technically too imperfect. I can't disagree more with the
''GC matches the Xbox'', heck, I even think the PS2 beats
the GC. Sly, Killzone, Devil May Cry, God of War, MGS2-3,
Jak, ICO/Wanda, Zone of the Enders, GT... the PS2 has more
graphical triumphs than the GC, IMO. The best PS2 games look
at least as good as the best GC games not named RE4.

"The best PS2 games look at least as good as the best GC
games not named RE4."

Agreed, but I was citing Resident Evil 4 as a gold standard-
so much higher than other GC games. Most GC games are sub
xbox and even ps2, but Res 4 shows what it is capable
of.

It could be the genre, or that it's so good in every other
respect that I'm prepared to forgive it, but I don't think
the letterbox detracts from it at all. If anything, it adds
to the claustrophobic feel and also lends a cinematic
quality to the proceedings.

I have Ninja Gaiden as well and as impressive as it (and DOA
Ultimate) is, I really wouldn't say it's technically
superior to Res 4, even if you prefer it from a sylistic
POV. Although, I lack HDTV, so I cannot judge in that
respect.

**WARNING SPOILERS*

The flames when the monk's flaming mortars land, the way
Leon's hair moves about, the blurring of the air as scythes
are thrown at you, all flawless IMO.

Yeah HDTV makes a huge difference, it really separates the
men from the boys. I don't want to downplay RE4's visual
splendor because it's an artistic wonder, but it really does
look prety gross compared to high end Xbox games. HDTV is
worth every cent, man, night and day. They won't be too
expensive by Xmas, you should get one. You wouldn't wanna
play Half Life 2 in 640x480, and you won't wanna play next
gen in 480i!

I agree GC's a pretty powerful system and nobody really
pushes it. Better to put your ambitious games on the Xbox or
PS2 where they can be pushed much farther or be played by
more people.

I've yet to see HDTV in the flesh (I can't afford a new big
TV at the moment, so I save myself the heartache by not
going to the stores in the first place), but I may have ot
check it out.

seen so far, mgs3 looks way better than re4.

american games look like plastic action figures fighting
each other on a child's unimaginative playset. i'll wait for
ps3 which will surely have more games like katamari damacy
and ico.

MGS3 ----> best game ever on PS2
RE4-------> best game ever on GC

IMO: RE4 > MGS3

It's a good investment but do plenty of research if/when you
look into it. It's a freaking daunting task.

Tridenti- I think it's going to surprise people. There are
plenty of PS2 games that look nearly as good as RE4. God of
War being a recent example, better looking than all GC games
bar RE4 and Metroid. I'm definitely going to at least rent
it to play with the new weapons and whatever else they add.

Umm, why are we turning this thread into a competition? it
was supposed to be a thread where we could marvel at modern
technology... tut tut,

Video games are a touchier subject than religion, war or
circumcision! Just look at the IGN or gamefaqs console
boards. Topics like this are a call to arms, baby.
