seriously though... is it the stupid public's fault? or is he just not that good? do you think he'll ever have one? i'm not sure if he even wants to though, but imagine windowlicker had hit no.1! he would have gone green..
i remember reading in an interview that he said he'd like to do something like windowlicker again..

I think Come to Daddy reached around number 14 on the charts, so he withdrew it for a short while so it would stop rising. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I know I've read it somewhere, can anyone else confirm this?
From what I know, RDJ, much like myself and most of the people I know, doesnt like the charts.

Crazy, I didn't even know you could withdraw.. he obviously needed the charts initially though for £££ otherwise he wouldn't have relased it if he was just gonna withdraw it? That seems bizarre; he could have got even more £££!
hmm.

MEREDITH: Those tracks got into the mainstream?
RICHARD: Pretty much. Come to Daddy was going to go well massive — not in America, but over here. It got to about 16 in the charts, and it was on the way to the top. I had to withdraw the record for a week, just so it would drop out again. I just about kept a lid on it.
MEREDITH: Why would you do that?
RICHARD: I think it's bad to be really well known, because you end up in people's faces whether they like you or not. That's a really horrible thought. The shittiest thing about famous people is that they just assume everyone wants to listen to them or look at them all the time.

No. LFO freeze was the best selling electronic single of its year, and it got into the top fourty if I remember correct.
I know BoC music has the right re-release went into the top 40 in vancouver, and 26 mixes was in the top 40 as well.

Squarepusher put crowd sounds in Ultravisitor to make "stupid people" like it. He said that in a pretty funny interview recently.
I am curious as to what positions various albums reach. Has Squarepusher ever got into the charts? Tracks like "My Red Hot Car" are no less accessable than Windowlicker and the like imo.

i've often wondered about this too. I like aphex's music a lot. i play his stuff for my close friends, one or two of them like it, but the majority of them say it sound like porno music (esp astrobotnia/ovuca's stuff) where are the lyrics etc. so i guess it all depends on the person, they're not active music listeners...they'll just listen to the radio, they don't do research and analyze (over analyze) music like some of us do. and thats fine. its just heartbreaking in a way. but its also nice to enjoy music that only a few people know about. if they dig it, i share it with them if not...oh well.
