I haven't been here in a while on account of not having the
internet at home. This place is strange and weird to me
now. I doubt anyone remembers who I am, but here
are two tracks that I made recently.
Untitled - a rdj-ish diddy made by recording random
household sounds and sequencing them. I also recorded a bit
of my friends drumset and chopped it up.
Rustled risings - an ambient track made entirely with
an electric guitar and a delay pedal, and some vst reverb
effect.
please tell me what you think of them if you listen. thank
you in advance to anyone that listens.
Also, I will post another track, a more 'techno-y' 10 min
thing later, if I can find somewhere to post it to.

rustled risings has interesting drum stylings... as i've
mentioned before, your tracks always sound a lot more
full-sounding than a lot of stuff by other peeps... the
second track is okay too... sort of reminds me of Rafael
Toral...

rustled risings: love this. really nice. goes a bit saw2ish
in the middle but works for the feel of the track.

untitled: the way you made this is really amazing. I love
that natural/organic sound you have going on there. You are
pretty damn amazing at making music. respect.

i remember your avatar at least, if not you.

untitled is a fun little song. there could be some better
adjustment of levels and shit, something about where the
sounds are placed seems a little off. also, the break at
1:28 is way too long, it would work better at about the
quarter of the length, cuz as i was listening at first i was
all 'oh its a break' but then i began to think maybe you
just decided to end the song but still have the mp3 be like
twice its length. if you do keep it that long, have the part
where it comes back in be alot more ass-kicking.

return the favor and listen to my tracks in my thread if u
want. pieces

mr. q. long time no see/speak. how're things? as for the
tracks? untitled is supreme. very impressive. i'm quite
enjoying it. rustled risings is nice, but i have a hard time
keeping my attention on ambient stuff. but that's my
problem. so no worries. cheers.

deadeight - I will have to check out Rafael Toral. thanks
for listening.

Raz0rBlade_uk - thank you very much for your complements. I
agree with the saw-ness of it.

hedphukkerr - thanks for listening, and for the critique. I
agree with a lot of what you say. though I am not exactly
sure because I can't listen to the song right now, as I am
at school and there are no speakers/headphones. That is the
reason I can't listen to your track either. Sorry.

---
here's the other song I was talking about before.
It's like a mish-mash of several sub-par aphex twin ripoffs.
Check it out, if the opportunity arises.

no problem, i know yer busy. i think my last email was a
rambling critique of art as commerce written right before
going to bed, so maybe it wasn't worth replying to...

anyway, i'm at work and i'm going to check out these tracks
in a few minutes.

I'm doing good. what's up man? I haven't seen you in
forever. (by 'see' I mean goof around on the interwebb
with)
Thanks a lot for listening. I'm glad that you're still
around to remember me. Uh, well I've get to class.

...best wishes to everyone who posted and slightly
less-than-best wishes to those who scooted about elsewhere.

Yeah i haven't forgot about you. You've made some
interesting tracks in the past and I remember you saying you
were gonna send a demo out to a few labels. If I remember
I'll try and check your stuff out tonight.

plaidzebra - yes it was worth replying to.. I'm just a
procrastinating bastard.

Skink / weatheredstoner - thanks for remembering me.
W.S. - I did send my tracks out to some labels, but no one
replied. I even sent one out to a relatively famous person
in the electronic music 'industry' who asked me to.. I'm
not going to say who, because he probably now wants nothing
to do with me.. (I can imagine everyone saying 'yeah, right,
sure..' and with good reason.)

Now I am off today for good.
Thank you to everyone who listened.

untitled has great sounds and a lot of promise, i'd like to
hear it grow a detuned melody, it sounds not quite complete.
that's one thing i really like about your tunes, all sorts
of fucked up sounds, always fresh...

listening to rustled risings now, but i'll have to give my
opinion before it finished since i've got to make a phone
call or two for work. if you stretched it out to 8 minutes
it would sound like stars of the lid. i liked it but it's
something i'd need to hear more of to see whether or not it
sticks. it's like a swirl of oil in a puddle down the
street...

an intriguing listen on both tracks...

offline DeadEight from vancouver (Canada) on 2005-05-09 18:09 [#01593185]
Points: 5437 Status: Regular

yeah, i will say that i think you should stretch out most of
your tracks, Q, they are almost always good as is, but
they'd be great if you explored the soundscapes more...
stretched em out and let 'em run for a good 10 minutes or
so...

offline Q4Z2X on 2005-05-10 08:55 [#01593629]
Points: 5264 Status: Lurker

The last one I posted is 10 minutes or so.. It's made of
many different movements (i.e. things crammed together)
I figure if I explore soundscapes too much I'll bore the
listener, as I would probably be bored from most of my
noodling.

plaidzebra - thanks for listening. I will need to check out
Stars of the Lid. I don't think it'll grow on you.. It was
basically just random notes strung together.. er somethin'.

What a thinly veiled bump this is.

offline plaidzebra from so long, xlt on 2005-05-10 10:46 [#01593773]

what? that was a a thinly veiled bump?!?!

*squint eyes up*

you bastid.

ps lots of people think stars of the lid is boring, it's
love it or hate it glass-is-half-empty-or-half-full sorta
music.

offline Q4Z2X on 2005-05-10 11:43 [#01593864]
Points: 5264 Status: Lurker

I might hate it. I was just an experiment. Most ambient
stuff bores me... It's okay for background music, or for
playing when I'm trying to fall to sleep. I guess I don't
know what I am talking about because I don't really listen
to it much.

This has been another obnoxious bump.

Somebody should check out this link if so inclined..
It's different than what I've done before. Really long,
but much more straightforward. like a ripoff of aphex twin
crossed with squarepusher maybe? I'm not sure because I
don't listen to squarepusher really... I don't know. I suck
at describing things, and I'm sure no one's really
interested.

Right they are just about to be listening to now.

Untitled: This has a nice start, i like the way the
percussion builds here. I enjoy the slightly off kilter
beats. That gap in the middle confused me a bit however but
not for too long. Some nice interesting beat mangling in the
second half. This certainly dosen't get boring. I would
like to commend you on your production skills. They seem to
have come leaps and bounds from the first stuff i heard of
yours.

Rustled risings: This starts out being quite spooky. It
reminds me atmospherically of sigor ros. That can only be a
good thing! This is nice work. I like how it gradually
changes into something else. It seems to shift mood every
few bars or something.

Overall i don't have any complaints. Good stuff dude. : )

Skink, thanks much for listening and for your
opinions/compliments.

I definitely see how that song would remind you of sigur
ros. the guitar and delay pedal I used gave an effect very
similar to how the guitarist in that band uses a bow.. both
give it a sort of string-y/cello-ish sound.
Also, it shifts moods because I made it with several guitar
tracks completely improvised with little or no editing... so
all the 'wrong' notes gave it a sort eeriness and a
unsettling quality.

thanks again very much for listening and for the in-depth
review/analysis.

downloaded.

Which one.. do you remember? It was probably a waste of
time and/or bandwidth.

I figured I'd annoying bump this again.. for the final
time... and to show off this creepy avatar-guy.

Ah. Oh well. It was probably one of those 30 doozies from
way back when.
On a semi-related note I promised I'd send a few people on
here some cds, and I still haven't gotten around to it. I'd
send you one if you wanted, since you seem to like my
music.. to an abnormal extent.
Or.. you can check out this track if you want.. I
don't think anyone as yet, as it was burried in this thread.
It's like 10 minutes of mashed up stupidness, but with some
nice melodies if I do say so myself.
I keep bumping this thread mainly because of that track,
which I spent a lot of time on and is quite different than
my other stuff. ..more accesible maybe...
anyway, thanks for listening/commenting and bumping this
incessantly with me.

(note: I said I wouldn't bump this thread anymore, but
technically this was not a bump since it is still on the
first page. Ah.. technicalities.)
