you've got some really good ones in your list there! i don't know if i could add much you aren't aware of.
the thing about the 80's is that there was so many great records released (as thurston moore pointed out, he'd make a Top 10,000 list of his favorite 80's records). it was actually a time of dramatic changes in the music/art world and musical revolution. maybe one of the most important periods in music of the last century, yet it was mostly underground.

ok so the version of zoot allures zappa was doing on tour (does humour belong in music for a perfect example) is AMAZING
i still contest that the 80s was a wasteland of awful music.. i think maybe you had to have been there and experienced it and have memories associated to the stuff to find enjoyment in it..
i was born in 86 so wasn't around for it.. 80s music (what i've heard) just isn't satisfactorily complex for me.. especially the electro stuff.. awful :S

no, i'm sorry, you don't have to have lived in the 80's to enjoy 80's music. that's kind of crazy. there was a lot of crap in the mainstream/commercial markets, but there was tons and tons of actual good music that wasn't played on commercial radio. it was the rise of hardcore punk, and subsequently indie/college rock we see to this day, tons of avant-garde, no wave, post-punk, second-wave of industrial, the list goes on and on. soooo much revolutionary and important music started then. look at the lists - you can now find most of these incredible albums on cd - it's not hard. you're missing out on A LOT if you dismiss the 80's.
