Yes, it is from that album.

The whole series is an amazing work of ambient music. I was
actually going to do a new topic about his music, but then I
realized it would be a bit of a sillt idea given the
ridiculous circumstances of last night.

boobah, it only looks "shitty" when resized down to that in
GIFF format, it's actually one of the more beautiful album
covers I've seen. :)

it was a great series! I listen to it during meditation.
on this planet, soma, strata, the dream circle, to name a
few are great releases aswell. Not sure many people on this
board know of steve roach, in fact once i was corrected that
i mispelled steve reich haha!

Wicked!

I never thought I'd stumble across a fellow Steve Roach fan.
I love relaxing to his stuff too. You need to get "The
Magnificent Void"; it's his masterpiece.

If you're not into him already, I'd also reccommend checking
out Robert Rich. His style is like Steve Roach's.

I have that one, and just about the entire timeroom
editions.

Great stuff.

Unfortunately, Steve Roach has an image of being an easy
listening "New Age" artist. His album names and track names
don't help.

It's a shame, because his stuff is generally very
imaginitive and darkly atmospheric.

haha I know exactly what you mean, I've have very spiritual
moments with his music, but me and my friends make jokes
about how much time he puts into his song names "hmmm I
think i shall call this piece Memories of a primordial time
where water and earth were one under the desert moon of the
dark eclipse"

Also, have you heard grotto of time lost? That song is
amazing!

Can I add you to my msn list? I'm not as much of an arsehole
as I can appear to be here. ;-)

You're the first person who has heard of Steve Roach (apart
from someone on WATMM.) I searched for messageboards about
him (or even music of his style) and couldn't find anything.
It's a really underappreciated genre; perhaps the image and
"spiritual" aspects are what put people off (although I have
no problem with that.)

It would be amazing to see him perform live. He has a huge
array of instruments (including a massive digeridoo) running
through a large effects system and creates soundscapes on
the spot.

I find him to be much more than just spiritual when it comes
to his collaborations. In fact, some of the stuff he did
with Vir Unis can almost be categorized as idm/synth.
How did you discover Steve Roach by the way?
I found him, and many other great artists from Hearts of
Space. There have been many great ambient artists on that
radio show, even aphex and boards of canada.
Some other interesting artists that bear resemblence to
Roach is Kenneth Newby, Kevin Keller, and some stuff by Bill
Douglas.

And about msn, nevermind that, I'm never on and I'm here all
the time :)

Oh ok.

It's just that having a 2 way conversation is a bit
difficult on a messageboard; msn would be a bit easier.

I actually discoverd Steve Roach while on amazon. I really
wanted atmospheric music that was about deep space; about
the cosmos (it's another interest of mine.) I found an
artist related to Tangerine Dream (Steve Roach)-and his Void
album sounded exactly like what I was looking for.

I'm far keener on his dark ambient space-ey stuff than his
tribal music (although "Trance Spirits" is brilliantly
hypnotic and scary.)

perhaps you would enjoy his atmospheric conditions
album(s).
I'm into the dark stuff he does but his light ambience is
ace too! Like the Dreamtime Return collection.

Yep. That's great to lift your mood up a bit. I love Mystic
Chords in particular because of the way the dark passages
shift into really light sections; his use of contrasts is
really powerful.

I'd love to work with him. I think he mosly improvises his
albums; for example, "Darkest Before Dawn" was played live
on guitars (even though it sounds nothing like it.)

Dreamtime Return is excellent. Isn't he doing some new stuff
based around it?

yeah, I think there are some re-releases with new tracks to
go along with it. I'm not entirely sure but some of the
productions he did during the dreamtime era are on the lost
pieces collection.

cavernous for me.

Are you a fan of any of the artists he collaborated with,
like Robert Rich, or Vir Unis? They're also great in their
own right (although not as prolific.)

I wish the title of this thread wasn't "CS2x", heheh. Some
might mistakenly think this is an attempt at attention, when
really I'm just amazed to find someone who's actually heard
of bloody Steve Roach!

I've kept a close ear to his collaborators solo works.
Patrick O'Hearn, Robert Rich, Vir Unis and Vidna Obmana.
Most of their works can heard simply by tuning into
Hearts of Space
Check some of the playlists and you'll see this is right up
your alley.

Thanks. Never actually listened to that station!

Have you heard Robert Rich's "Stalker?" It's such an intense
and unbelievable experience. It's amazing the feelings that
this genre invokes; I guess "less is more" sometimes.

Driving around the woods at night with Stalker blaring out
in the middle of nowehere in Hungary is an experience I'll
never forget.

definitely look for that one. Sounds like some good stuff!

Thanks mark, I'll have a look.

Pure droney music isn't always good for me, althought when
I'm in a certain (fucked) mood it fits the bill perfectly
(helps you concerntrate on work, too.)
