important for/from music history..

i'll write a test this (or so they told me) thursday and i
have no idea what is it going to look like. all i know is
that it's going to be about alternative music from jazz to
electronica, but im pretty sure mostly about rock/punk
rock/folk type of music..roughly from 70's on. most likely
about artists and albums in this field, so please set as
many relevant questions so i can get an idea of what it
might look like, because im terrible with memorizing album
titles or even songs..
thanks for your time :)

yes, it's a part of an radio audition so that's what i
imagine they'll put in the test (could be something totally
different, i guess i'll see on thursday). perhaps you
thought i'll be the one asking questons, but the thing is
i'll be the one answering them :)

opto, thanks!

actually i thought you might know already some answers on
those Q's provided by me.

do not treat them too seriously ( though they could be real
), but i would expect something in this manner.

i don't know answers to those questions, that is why i need
as many as possible :) (i guess i'll be guessing a lot when
the day comes)
it's sort of what i expect it to look like too..

are you at least familiar with the terms / surnames ?

coz if youre not familiar with those i gave you, the test

i doubt it..i don't think they played 10 autechre songs in
whole year on that radio..could happen perhaps, so i'll just
name my favourite 10.

in fact you can find jazz on ae albums , especially on
draft.

you just need to listen to some snares, they are almost like
those jazz smooth brushes.and general improvization, which
is all about jazz.

hmm, actually i was serious about it..they're music experts,
it's hard to belive how much they know about it. it's the
most respected radio station (and much more) in this part of
the europe and they really put out quality stuff..

sure, there are similarities between autechre and jazz
improvisation, but i had a chance to see spiritual unity and
autechre live in the past two weeks and the first ones blew
my mind of, definitely one of the most exciting gigs i ever
witnessed..autechre were nice too but not nearly as complex
as those jazzy guys :)

ah i wasnt taking a piss with those questionsits just they
are a little jokes, well if youre not familiar with the
issues, you wont reckognize the sillynes of them. like for
example, Terry Rilley was one helluva experiment-guy, he did
weird stuff with guitars and electronic machines of every
kind ( and not only ), but he was never a violin player, and
i bet he even never had one in his hands :P

and so on.

typo? :) either way, respect!
as for answers - i'd say the first 5 on that list are from
roughly 75-80, nevermind in 1991 (?) man i suck, and black
sabath from around 75 as well :) jav!!

I got asked these when I went to work in a record shop

Who is Declan McManus?

Who is Harry Webb?

Who is Reg Dwight?

etc

I recommend The real names of celebrities web site.

also, could you all name some bands that i shouldn't miss
out and were quite important for the alternative music
scene..obscure stuff too, i know very little about this i
think...

you know more about the current music scenes than anybody.
seriously, you know more about what's happening in new york
than i do. specializing in certain things is good, i think.
you love music, you've got good taste - you'll do fine!

i think that new york thing is more of an exception..it so
happens i like the scene you have going there so that's
that.

"specializing in certain things is good, i think"

definitely, i was way too focused on electronic music only
for too long, and i know quite a bit about it i think, but
the downside of that is that i neglected other genres for
too long.. and im very weak in knowledge when it comes to
70's and 80's..but i know what i know and i doubt i can
improve in next two days, especially because im going to a
gig tomorrow that is about 100 miles from here so i won't
have any time beside tonight to check out some facts :)
thanks for your support!!

i had that test yesterday..it was difficult but very well
put together. one question also involved aphex twin :)

the last question - test was audio - they played 15 songs
and we had to guss what was it..it was all music i haven't
heard before - except for like two tracks..it was either the
most obscure or very popular (which i don't listen to much)
music and i had real hard time with that one. plenty of
etno, jazz..
first question was a list of about 30 people (real names)
and we had to write what we knew about them..second question
was the same but about domestic people. next one was to
explain some terms (be-pop, crooklyn, air guitar,...). then
what idm, gysbe, ebm, ur,... stand for. next one what was
sun studio known for. then krautrock. where's motown
located. then a question about british invasion. difference
between hardcore and punk. what music scenes are chicago,
detroit and manchester known for and to describe the scenes
and anything we knew about it. and a bunch of more questions
i can't think of right now :)
