I came a cross an alarming set of possible corporate spies on slsk. Last night I searched "tori amos beekeeper" and the results were a bunch of different users with generic names such as "ronnie7632," "dave893," "beth7366" etc. All had many coppies of each song from the album. Is there some explanation that I haven't thought of? All I could think of was corporate spies, but part of me thinks I'm just paranoid about getting fined for illegal downloads.

Strange, ive had about 30 people download one of my short film skits. No one ever downloads my videos. Each user also had names like what you mentioned.

Is it named something like "The Perfect Storm_skit" or "Oceans 12 _ laughabout"?
Jupitah: the day I turn into a female mature student studying History of Art will be the day I listen to Tori Amos.

hmm, its called 'A webcam chat with two goths'
haha, must be the word goth. the irony is that goths are looking for goth things and i made a parody of how retarded the goth genre is.
but still, the usernames don't add up, as I said, they all have names like dave238 sherri4854 dan38 etc. I didn't see any names like 'father's_mistake' or 'oath_of_blood' hah.

Recording Industry something something-or-others
they can sue the pants off people because they are cool.
I dont know. I think it is just common sense to share with a community of people you already know. That is how you avoid problems.

In canada there is a tax on CD-R's because people use CD-R's to burn music from published artists. The tax goes back to artists that are canadian.
At first it seemed kind of lame, but now that I think about it, it sets a precident against being sued for piracy, because you are paying the artists for their music.
This is stupid. Reguardless of the lawsuits, people are still going to download music. All its doing is estranging people from the corporate music people. I like M3rck records way of going about it. Its ok if you download illegal mp3's of our artists, but please send donations to us if you like it.
The gratefull dead allowed people to make as many copies of thier music to give away as their fans wanted.

there's a huge huge difference between downloading something that the band is trying to sell and downloading something they want you to download.

I'm talking about the cd's that they want to sell. Their deal is, we want you to buy our cd's, but we can't stop people from downloading illegally if they want to, so we ask if you like our cd's, then send some money to the artist.

yes. if we are paying tax for every cdr (and casette and minidisc etc (and soon possibly flash/hd in players)) then we are basically entitled to copy shit. if not then why the fuck are they taxing us. they legislated it, they are acknowledging that we might do that and basically are giving the right to do it.

Go into your shared directory settings, clear all your upload folders, and reselect them. Now you should be given an option to allow to everyone, or just people on your list.
