A NUT dressed up as a giant monkey has left thousands of
people living in terror.

Monkey Man is believed to be behind a number of attacks
which have caused scores to flee a bustling suburb of the
Indian capital New Delhi.

In the latest incident at the weekend the victim was left
seriously "mauled" after being leapt on.

At least a dozen others have been injured after being
attacked by Monkey Man in the last fortnight.

One witness described how he came face to face with the
"huge man-monkey" and saw him jump 20ft in the air.

"We were taking an evening walk when we walked into this
huge man-monkey," he said.

"The monster sprang up 20ft from a crouching position and
grabbed the branches of a tree and vanished before me and my
children could even scream."

Many locals believe the fiend is a real-life Frankenstein's
monster.

They reckon it was created when a genetic scientist botched
an experiment on himself with an untested serum.

But cops say the rumour is rubbish.

Local detective Prashant Kumar agreed people in Ghaziabad
were terrified.

"There is certainly absolute panic in the city," he said.

But he poured scorn on rumours that Monkey Man was indeed a
monster.

"Somebody is playing a mischief by wearing a mask," he said.

"There is absolutely no scientific basis to the stories."

It is not the first time India has been freaked out by a
freak.

Speculation of a killer "stoneman" rocked Calcutta eight
years ago following the murder of a dozen homeless people in
the eastern city.

The mystery ended with the arrest of a serial killer who
used large rocks to batter his sleeping victims.
