What do you do for a living? Are you happy? What do you
want to do?

Do you reckon you can do what you want or do you reckon you
need talent, or do you think you can learn?

What do you do for a living?
IT- DBA/Server Administration.

Are you happy?
Yes, although that has little to do with my work. I feel the
lack of an appropriate reward structure in my work is a
massive motivation killer. When I started I was keen as
anything, always came in early, did anything without
complaining, worked long hours, etc. Come first pay review,
I got the maximum possible amount increase (in line with our
company policy), but when you see how little that actually
affects your salary, after tax, as well as how little chance
of promotion there is (through no lacking on your part), it
is a massive, "Why bother?". So for a saving of 5%-10% (less
than that once you take into account other cost factors
associated with an employee other than salary, sick pay,
leave, deskspace, etc.), they've lost about 33% extra
workload, as well as a lot of flexibility on my part. I was
quite upfront with my boss about this situation and my
susequent attitude and he assures me that they are doing
everything in their power to increase my pay rise, but until
the extra money appears in my pay packet, they have one more
half-arsed employee.

I'm aiming to work somewhere else where there are better
prospects, but still in something IT related.

What do you want to do?
Corporate Intelligence/Work for the high tech crime squad
(IT division of UK police)

Do you reckon you can do what you want or do you reckon
you need talent, or do you think you can learn?

You need a willingness to learn as well as a basic level of
intelligence. Provided you have that any "mental" (as
opposed to physical work like labouring, carpentry, etc.)
work within reason is possible.

Yes. A mod where you don't just get to B7 the twats, you get
their door kicked in and them sent down for a long stretch,
or in the case of corporate intelligence, financially ruin
them.

Ecnadniarb- A fantastic example of poor punctuation making a
reasonably coherent sentence into utter nonsense. Well
spotted. Amendment:

You need a willingness to learn as well as a basic level of

intelligence; Provided you have that, any "mental" (as
opposed to physical work like labouring, carpentry, etc.)
work, within reason, is possible.

IE provided you have a basic level of intelligence and a
willingness to learn, almost any any job that doesn't
require physical strength/craftsmanship, is feasible.

What do you do for a living?

I writes programs and design databases and implement front
ends and do a whole heap of shite that people find difficult
so pay a lot of money for. On the weekend I am an Islamic
terrorist.

Are you happy?

Professionally, yes, I just sort of do what I want to do. I
dislike computers, but I have the option of working at home
a lot of the time so that is really good. When I do go into
the field I am lucky enough to work in different
environments. As I am not at all materialistic I don't
worry about money, I am as happy living in a bedsit as I
would be in a mansion.

What do you want to do?

Exactly what I am doing.

Do you reckon you can do what you want or do you reckon
you need talent, or do you think you can learn?

I could do anything I wanted, the problem is a lot of the
things I enjoy I don't really want.

"I could do anything I wanted, the problem is a lot of

Do you mean there are lots of things you enjoy doing, that
you wouldn't want to do as a job? (Genuine question, not a
tit for tat grammar war ;-)

Exaph, what are your answers to the questions?

There are a lot of things that I enjoy doing that would
ultimately lead me to a position I wouldn't want to be in,
or make me into a person I don't want to be.

What do you do for a living?
web design, sometimes coding sites after designed. Having
another designer and a flash programmer 'under my
supervision' because i worked here longer than them.

Are you happy?
No, I'm feeling lonely and out of place everywhere. This
doesn't deal with the job, though I'm not content in it. I
have to find a girlfriend to become happy for some time.

What do you want to do?
website job is pretty much what I can do best. So i don't
know what else would I want to do. Perhaps, english-russian
and vice-versa translations, because I have had a good
training for that in school, with excellent marks. Music -
yeah, i'd like to. And, recently i started thinking about
cheap clothes atellier. Maybe i will start it sometimes, I
have a lot of friends - clothes designers.

I'm developing at the moment working on an online banking
type thing that is to be implemented in the near future. I
used to think its what I wanted to do, but sitting in an
office all day looking at code sux imo.

I'm a keen photographer, partly because I find it a
sufficent outlet for what creativity I have, and it's pretty
neat keeping a record of the world around you, etc.

So I want to pursue that really, I'm working on depicting
architecture/ aesthetic concepts in Manchester at the moment
(I set myself pretty crappy projects) but hopefully it'll
lead somewhere. I'm just soooo lazy, I need to crack on with
it. I'd like to have my own small studio and take
interesting comissions from people for silly money one day.

So..

Yes, I know what you mean. I look at some of the older
managerial types at my work and you really cannot envy them,
in spite of their obvious wealth and supposed "success".
They appear to be utterly without happiness and constantly
harrassed. Seeing them in a social situation, they don't
appear any better.

I hate office politics. The higher you go the more you have
to either accept them or fight them. I stay clear as much
as possible, and by working freelance you tend not to have
to get caught up in a lot of the internal conflicts going
on, you just ask "what do you want?", they tell you, you
tell them a better way of going about it and then you just
get on with it.

I was talking more about other things though :P I have done
a few stupid things in the past that give you a real feeling
of power but you know that 5 years down the line you are
going to be slopping out of a morning. :)

recently i teach kids, teenagers. it's not difficult - if
you are able to focus on various things at a time. i've been
doing this for several years and i'm bored. i'm not a

engineering. cause this is what i really love : sounds.

What do you do for a living?

full time waster. i serve pints in a pub for cash. i
could/should be at uni by now, but whats the point?

Are you happy?

my job isnt actually that bad, but the money is shit, but i
can cope on the wage for now. i would never want to work in
an office based environment ever again. those places are
fucking weird.

What do you want to do?

become a recording artist. no seriously. i am going to do
this.

Do you reckon you can do what you want or do you reckon you

i can do what i want to do, but there is always room for
improvement.
