is there a new format of minidisc that has a 1gig disc? can
you use them in standard players?

Get a proper MP3 player. If you are insistant on getting a
Hi-MD then wait until the second generation of players are
released that can play MP3's natively because SonicStage is
a heap of shite and takes years to convert from MP3 to
ATRAC3plus. and even longer for non-Hi-MD format discs.

If you want to do recordings... you are going to want to use
a minidisc... the mp3 recorders allow a far too high ammount
of digital hiss into the recording. Unless you want that
digital hiss, and then, by all means, use an mp3 player that
records.
