ok, this started out as one of my uni assignments. I was
supposed to compose a track to sound like 1 of 14 specified
artists - varying from Ar, to Damien Rice, to Portishead to
Barry Manilow - i chose squarepusher. I don't think it
sounds much like him tho...

what do you think? :-/

a genuine hoax

it has moments where you think mmm, and is actually not a
bad track, but it doesnt sound like squarepusher really at
all overall that is all.

I quite like this, but it didnt sound too much like
squarpusher, except the chord at 1:58 (that was spot-on).
Maybe I've listened too much to Tom Jenkinson, so maybe
you'll fool your teacher.

I really like the hihat sounds on it, those were excellent.

this is a really cool track actually. it has elements of
squarepusher definetely. kind of like a deviation of his
style. I can imagine him releasing something like this if he
hadn't gone down certain routes

i think if this sounds like anyone it sounds like Red
Snapper.

It's not so bad, but it's not Squarepusher esque. but hell,
if it inspires you, keep putting out bangin' rock and roll
tracks like this, dude.

your right, boc is easy to mimic. they need to turn thier
"original" knob to full power

Its hard to make it sound totally authentic. The sounds are
really easy, but the beats are not so easy. The have a way
of sloppy programming that really works.

just because boc's music structure is often a lot simpler
than most 'idm' does not mean they are unoriginal.

btw this is not a bitchy post so i include a smiley :)

i can hear the []< in there, but not too much. if you had
some more off the wall beatage then you be alot closer. that
doesnt mean its not a good track, which it is. its a really
excellent vibe, squarepusher or not.

feel free to check out any of my tracks, which are linked in
my thread

Yeah, good track but not exactly like Squarepusher
(although, his sound varies tremendously from like, Music is
a Rotted One Note and Hard Normal Daddy to Go Plastic or
DYKS)

BoC were original and I love them, but their music is a lot
more easy to imitate than Squarepusher's. Those detuned
synth patches, deep analog base notes, their typical 3
chords wich crop up in a lot of their songs from all their
albums, those hip hopppy-ish drums, kids voices, nature
sounds, short interlude tracks blah blah.

this is a really enjoyable track, whatever about it sounding
like squarepusher. very nice.
