I know this an Aphex Twin board (holy be thy name) but what
do you think of Autechre? I love the early stuff right up
to the latest. What do you think?

what does it mean that they are paramount in your book???

i suppose they are of your liking.
back in 1998 i bought LP5 and i didnt like it... i turned it
back.... now in 2002 i bought it again and after it all the
rest... now i love autechre... they are incredible...

thats exactly what i think nacmat. i bought confield a few
days ago, first i couldnt get into it at all but now i semm
to start loving it; I've been listening to LP5 three times
today while i was learning;
but i cant imagine in which direction they will develop, i
dont think its possible to beat confield in "strangness"

They're amazing, one of my faves, but I think they're
overrated. It's possible to be an incredible artist/band and
still be overrated... they're not even close to RDJ, in my
book. To boring and static.

Autechre is pretty good, but not among my favorites. I'd
like to go pick up Incunabula sometime but no stores seem to
have it.

Nacmat, are you the one who picked up all their releases in
like a month? It's nice how that happens, you discover an
artist and it turns out they've been around and have plenty
of goods to discover. I found a few months before Confield
was released and had most of their albums and eps at that
point.

Incunabula is low on my list of favorite Ae releases, but
that doesn't mean much because it's incredible. I think my
favorite is ep7 right now, but you know how that goes.

*******************************
*My final valuation apart AUTECHRE*
******************************

I like AUTECHRE but they're not the bests.
I love the first two album AMBER (masterpiece) and
INCUNABULA. Then their style changed, becoming more cold,
more mathematical, more mechanical, more harsh and too much
experimental.
I find Tri Repeate a good album but nothing more, Garbage
and Anvil Vapre are good ep but not masterpieces (apart that
wonderful song called Vietrmx), Chiastic Slide doesn't like
me, it's too complex and celebral for my taste, LP5 is a
really innovative and amazing album, it's always very cold
and mechanical, but it has interesting change of rhythm and
I find it very original.
I never heard "Confield" but tonight my girlfriend will
present it to me.

After a lot of meditations I can say who I like AUTECHRE,
but I think Richard D. James is totally another thing, he's
much better. In many songs Richard is more emotional than
celebral, his music is more deep and various, imo.

I'm sad because Autechre was able to create amazing melodies
and awesome poems but now their musical's evolution (I
repeat) is too much cold, mechanical, mathematical and
celebral.

I know who many of you disagree with me, but this is only my
modest opinion.

for once we dont agree. and thats good too.
i dont think they are cold, mathematical...but yes very
experimental.
its said that they do kind of machinelike music or music for
robots... well dont think so... i always find melodies and
warm textures in their music... its just in a language we
have to learn how to use it... i think autechre are making a
great trip towards future... but not cold and far away
future... they are travelling into the way of expressing
feelings in future... they wont ever sound as goon gumpas...
you are right but there are many ways of melody and they
have invented several... any way if you like amber that much
still think that we have similar taste...
i always enjoy reading your posts as they are full of
information... you are very important for this message board
woofer...(i think i have said this to reflex and ophecks...
thats how i feel it)

Good Grief! Im going to like it here :)
I went to see them in Manchester last year. It was a real
challenge to dance to them. Its infinately better than
"normal" 4/4. Music for mind and soul. Their Peel Sessions
are pretty cool too. I love both Aphex and Ae in equal
parts. In fact it would not suprise me if they swop albumn
tracks just to mess our heads up!

I think Ae and afx are both amazing (obviously) but I don't
see any point in trying to decide who is better. I usually
prefer Ae to afx, but the music I want to listen to changes
from day to day and from hour to hour. One minute I'll be
in the mood for Aphex then the next I might want to hear
something like Godspeed You Black Emporer. Thats the beauty
of music; there is so much out there you can choose
something to suit or enhance any mood or atmosphere.

Fair enough LeCoeur. Im just curious. Im not on a "This is
only true music" tip. I went to go and see Maryln Manson
last year because a mate of mine had a spare ticket. I went
because it was diffrent. It was alot better than I thought
it would be to be honest. As I say, I love music. The more
I listen to the more I learn.

different music experiences makes the world go
round...=0)...it just seems like most people who like aphex
also really like autechre. i feel like i'm in the minority
but i'm being honest in my assessment of what i've heard so
far. i don't eggactly 'get it' cos i prefer more melodic
music...it's just that i have to have some underlying
melodic line to enjoy any type of music. i have yet to hear
something from autechre that has that. i have been given
some tips of what to listen to....and i look forward to
checking it out and seeing if it's up my alley =)

you really should it's worth! :-)
at first i only listened to the melodic tracks (from
incunabula and lp5 for example) and skipped the others, than
i sometimes forgot skipping and so i discoverd the (mostly
very deeply hidden) underlying melodies;
it took some time but it grew on me (i hope one can say
that, my english is not that good, i fear i'm talking about
ae as about mushrooms) in any case you should give it a
try.

Some stuff from Confield truly is AWFUL, but the good
moments truly are shining.

I swear, my cousin was messing around on FruityLoops, and
made some worthless noisy shit that sounded exactly like
some Autechre tracks. I'd like to see him make a Come to
Daddy or a Girl/Boy Song.

I think the bull about ''opening your mind, man, listen to
the EMOTION in the random sounds'' is exactly that... bull.
That is one PRETENTIOUS duo... I love them, regardless.

I love alot of their tracks, they're amazing... although I
also wish they'd cut their track lengths... Tewe, I just
love that... until it continues on with nothing happening
but the most MINUTE, BORING little dynamics... loses the
steam it had when it started for me.
