I do find myself somewhat suspicious that they would have to
include a gimmic such as a sticker in what otherwise might
be their most contested release to date. Is it a
consolation prize?

Frankly, is it a conceptual strategy to go this
minimal? Something just seems knee-jerked about all of
this. I wonder if they just released this record to fulfill
contract quota in order to sooner jump the Warp ship...

Anyways, the divide in realization between this effort and
the last is almost to blatant to "chalk up" to the fact that
they are old and running out of ideas. The excellent
packaging of Draft is an illustration of what can happen
when one's strategies are well thought out.

i think you have some points there;
its nothing to do with defending ae if you look at my posts.
i listen to incunabula and amber a hell of a lot more than
their other stuff, and will continue to do so.

o_0

i think most fans are happy with their stickers..

imo the point is they just wanted to do it straight simple

i really don't understand where you got the contract
fulfilling bullshit??

and if you don't like it that's fine, but what the hell is
this: "they are old and running out of ideas",
pleeeeeaaaaase, i think you are the one running out of ideas
on how to criticize them

Well, running out of ideas is better than not having any
ideas to begin with.

Almost all AE's records blew my mind when i first listened
to them. Waiting for new releases was something exciting,
cause you never quite knew what direction AE were heading.
For me this all changed after Confield...Never really liked
Draft, and most of what i heard of Untilted is quite
dissapointing.

But hey, maybe we should stop posting shit on mb's and try
and make some great music ourselves.

for the record though yes i like my sticker, and i prefer
untilted to draft and confield.

check it first on slsk)..but what's this sticker everyone's
talking about ? i didn't get that. got a freebie though (a
music/design zine)

I've got very mixed feelings about this release. It sorta
sounds mega exciting and increadably half arsed at the same
time. Somehow.

I know what it is....it's the lack of decent melodies. The
beats and sounds are pretty tight, but even Draft and
definately Confield had better melodies than this release
(whoever says Confield has not melodies isn't listening
properly-all the tracks except for 4 and 6 have strong
melodies imo)

"I do find myself somewhat suspicious that they would

oh wow I missed that one!

damn you, autechre, for wooing us with the siren-call of
your stickers!

(which are quite ugly, by the way and I say this while quite
liking the album art - it isn't so much grey as it is
silver)

warp make stickers for just about every release anyway.

i can't find anything appealing with augmatic disport
(except *maybe* the ending). apart from that track, i think
it's a good album.

a little less melodic than before, yes.

i think it's my less favourite track too

in order of my preferences :
1) pro radii
2) ipacial section
3) the trees
4) lcc
5) sublimit
6) iera
7) fermium
8) augmatic disport

i've been getting more in this album for a few listens ; but
maybe it's what some of you said : i WANT to like it

Dumb.

Heeeeeello, I was saying that I was certain that WASN"T the
case (that they were fading), but the overall coordinated
effort towards the record seemed to publicly hint otherwise.

Yeah, so uhhhh..... I was saying this might be evidence that
something else is going on entirely. Re: trying to leave
Warp, Rutterford in a slump, learning new software, etc.

Don't get me wrong, it's a bit of a grower and it IS good.
It just not as inventive as their other releases were at the
time they premiered.

I am a good fan I think... I buy every possible record...
and I preorder this one, and I dont get the sticker... its
not important, but I would have liekd to have it.

I might ask warp to give it to me with my next order... I am
sure they will understand me

eventhough its just a sticker, and probably very simple
minimal, but if it came with preorders I want mine

by the way, I odnt care the critics... it sounds fucking
excellent, and yes, a lot more straight than previous works

i've just received it ; and i got the sticker (i ordered it
only last monday... ) ; the sticker isn't that beautiful
(better than nothing though)
the packaging is pretty poor but it's a grower
the music is exactly the same as on leak 1, sounding better
on CD of course !
i hope it'll grow on me

Warp always give stupid gimmicks away with shit albums.
Drukqs by Aphex Twin came with the "Come on you cunts" stick
and the postcards, 26 mixes for cash came with the chocolate
coins, Gantz Graf came with the little card things and now
the sticker with Untilted.

(Please note I find two of these excellent releases, one
patchy but good and one a waste of time)

I think the ae releases are excellent.
