Plastikman-Closer

Woah, what a spooky and intense album.

I hated this at first, thinking it was shit and repetitive
and boring.

But now I love Closer; it's a throbbing, deep, miminal and
highly emmotional journey imo, and if it were any different
(i.e less repetitive or more "full-on") then it would loose
its power.

I wish more electronic music had Plastikman's attention to
meaning as well as abstraction and sound design. I guess
that's why I like Boards of Canada too.

i listened to this again a while ago and yeah 'intense'
sounds about right.

love those sharp and crispy highhats kicking in after
minutes of thundering bassline.

Disconnect gets my vote and I think it's a natural
progression from Closer. People who complain about Richie
using his voice on it is stupid. I think it adds intimacy.
The voice pitched down is also a classic in the old
acid/detroit school techno records, and I feel he pays his
respect to the past masters with it.

Closer is indeed a classic, techno yet firmly seated in a
comfy sofa in the best chill out room in the world.

need to disconnect my brain. sorry about that guys, it wont
happen again. promise

I love the artwork that comes with Closer too, it fits the
personal and spooky nature of the album.

I've been living under a rock-has ge got new stuff out?

Dug this out again a couple of weeks ago, turned it up loud
and fed it through the headphones. I'd forgotten how intense
it is. Every sound and texture is so incisive and
controlled, as though a real sense of oppression and rage is
being kept on an impossible tight leash.
I liked this album a lot when it came out - but it's not the
kind of thing you can have on all the time, otherwise you
start to gloss over it's subtle nuances. You get immune to
the depth of it. It has to be played load or through good
headphones or you simply can't make out any of what's going
on.

Nostalgik 2 is out now, by the way. If anyone's
interested in more lost Plastikman gems from the early 90s
golden era. Sheet One is still the most sublime of
the Plastikman records, although I do like the way the two
trilogies have progressed.

I wonder when Richie will write the sixth album?

I used to have the disconnect video - downloaded it from a
site - but I can't find it anymore. Do you know where I can
get it from?

I'll have a look there - but I'm not sure it will still be
up over a year after the 12" was released.
If anyone else knows - I'd be deeply appreciative.

Hawtin's lyrics on this one are so cheesy, they're makin' me
feel uneasy.
But I can't help listening to it.

That's half the fun of the track for me - the stilted, 1950s
sci-fi b-movie type lyrics.

Other vids on that site too including Psyk by Plastikman &
$100 by Captain Comatose. All made by the same guy.
