Surprising: On this record there's no generative work or fader based MIDI stuff.
I find it heartening to read that - they are so advanced they think and compose like Arcturian robo-fish. Cool.
Not surprising at all: We work for about a year, usually a bit longer, on an album, and then pick out tracks from what we've done that seem to have a thread, and then put them into an order.
This is why Autechre is magnificent to listen to and I can listen to it over and over, while stuff like Kid 606 I'm lucky if I can listen through once. I heard that Kid 606 let it slip in an interview that he can do an album in an evening. It shows.

What exactly is fader based Midi any ways?
I was thinking it was controlling modularities within the song structures, literally through faders and sliders and can be outlined in Max. But I'm guessing this album was all just point in click? That is surprising

I didn't like the interviewer too much, but it was an interesting read.
I think Autechre find the god-like way people view them as funny. They're just making tunes that sound good to them after all.

Knowing it was more composed and not so much a couple of guys remote-controlling stuttering music robots makes me listen to the music differently and appreciate it more.
Could he be lying and hiding the ugly fact that anyone who possesses the Autechre Device can make music as good as them? I don't think so. Like not everyone with a fancy camera has Mapplethorpe's sense of light and composition, ya know?

I've been debating the though of whether it's more about their tools then their ideas recently. I mean, since they're adamant that their music is music for the sake of music rather then anything else (atmosphere, emmotion etc.) then that leads me to think along those lines.
Although obviously I still enjoy their stuff.
