i wonder why they always come with extra-tracks.

i read recently that the new paulo coelho's book (brazilian
best seller bitchass) had to be released first on Iran than
on the rest of the world. Thats because of iranian
copyrights law - if the book is released in any other
country before, they dont need to pay the copyrights. i
think something like that betwen music market, japan and
extra tracks.

or please sb give me the correct answer

it is to make the domestic releases more attractive than the
imports of same release.

imports would be cheaper than the domestic ones?

if so, is the japanese industrie that pay for the extra
track.

Perhaps. I only know why there are bonustracks on
(some)japanese editions. I haven't investigated the economic
side of it, but it makes sense that the label license the
tracks, and push the price that little bit extra. Who knows?
There might be some fellow from Japan here who can shed some
light on this matter.

I think vlari is right. As far as imports being cheaper, I
don't think that they would be. All they would need to do is
electronically send the art assets and tracks over to the
Japanese manufacturer, whereas with the import route you
would need to ship all the shrinkwrapped albums across the
ocean physically. Due to the huge size of the Japanese music
industry, it is cheaper for them to press their own domestic
versions within their own infrastructure.

a friend told me that a friend of him visited Japan, and
this guy checked in various stores that the japanese
releases were cheaper than the imports (the ones that
usually we have). Because of this, the japanese labels
DEMAND for a bonus for their market so they can release the
cd's to save money for imports and to guarantee every title
will be sold out after some time.

Beside, I think it has become some sort of "tradition", with
every new release I always think "is there a bonus track (or
something else) in the japanese edition?"

By the way, EVERYTHING is expensive in Japan.

Its the other way around - imports are nearly always cheaper
than domestic releases.

Domestic releases usually come with extra tracks, and
usually also have extra liner notes in japanese, with band
biog and often translated lyrics. They also have an obi
(belt) that wraps around the side of the box and says the
artist and release name in japanese (usually katakana for
foreign artists). I guess the extra tracks and liner notes
justify the higher price.

Nothing in Japan makes sense. Take it from someone who has
lived there for years -you have to stop questioning why
things are they way they are and just accept it - otherwise
the whole country would drive you mental.

japanese releases.

I missread him then. :)
I caught the bit about extra tracks being on japanese
releases to interest the local customer over the cheaper
import version and that was it. Now that i read it, you're
right, he didn't really say that.

I think it's a result of japanese people trying to figure
themselves out, and then going mad from it...
