i got the idea to buy a pinball machine and mod it from given schematics to aphex twin sounds .... (aka windowlicker pinball machine)
is it just me or a fluke, or did warp create a pinball machine or something like this? i can't really remember
any details on it?

the coolest pinball machine ever is probably 'haunted house' with the translucent screen in the middle and inverted level below. get that one.

amazing idea, but how?! wouldn't you have to install some hard-drive/sampler-ish thing to store the sounds on?

actually, the thing is really too outdated, but the 'basement' feature is still very very cool.

You're thinking of the pinball machine Sean and Rob rescued from ailing West Pier in Brighton, which they later "modded" with highly treated "noises" and then played for 70 odd minutes, recording the resulting mess under the name "Draft 7.30". Legend has it that Rob won and Sean had to hand over everything he had in his pockets as a forfeit. This included 75p in change, a tissue (moderatly soiled), plectrum (black) and a Fox's glacier mint (slightly fluffy).

i dont see why eprom would be so difficult to reprogram
pinball machines usually come with full schematic diagrams(all the ones ive seen)
think about that, windowlicker pinball

Leafcutter john customized a pinball machine with midi triggers on all the buffers and (what are they called, bouncy things?) about 5 years ago.

EEPROM= electronically erasable programmable read-only memory
EPROM= erasable programmable read-only memory
(EPROM is erased by UV light exposure in a little window on the chip).
The EPROM will probably have midi notes or something on it, not real music, since that would take considerable room on the device.
The pinball machine may then send these notes to a sound chip, like a little yamaha FM chip or something, like old games consoles like the megadrive (genesis) did.
I would image a pinball machine would store midi notes and somekind of basic sound canvas or something in eprom and maybe a few 8bit samples of voices, like winner, bonus, etc.
Simple solution: You could just hook up a CV to midi convertor and get the CV from sensors fitted to the table as someone said above. Just connect the midi cable to a sampler and re route the sampler audio out to the speakers in the table.

Not the bumpers (those are the things that you move to hit the ball), but the other ones in the rest of the machine).
