did anyone go to the abbey road film festival?
it ran from march 19th to april 3rd (yesterday).

i went on saturday the 2nd. It was pretty cool. Looked round
Studio 2 (where the beatles famously recorded) and then went
into Studio 1 for the showing of A Hard Day's Night.
Afterwards there was a Q&A session led by the current
manager of abbey road, with the Beatles' taylor's son (bit
tedious), roy benson (asst. editor), David Jackson (actor,
played the 11yr old in the scene with Ringo by the river),
and victor spinetti (actor, played the director in the
film).

in studio 2 they had the pianos and organs used on 'abbey
road' and 'let it be', plus some of the microphones, such as
the neumann 47 which was made in 1952 but is still in
use today. they didn't open up the control room to the
public, which was pretty unfortunate - apparently they've
kept lots of the old analogue equipment in there.

the night was meant to be about the films related to abbey
road, but it was obvious everyone was there because of the
beatles connection. victor spinetti was a bit of a
character, told lots of stories about his time with the
beatles - he had lots of love for them.

You didn't see anything absolutely amazing, but you just
left with a smile on your face, feeling better about the
world. Unfortunately that smile was wiped clean from our
faces when we got to St John's Wood tube station to hear the
announcement that all services on the jubilee line were
suspended!

If they do open up abbey road to the public again, i'd
definately recommend a visit.
